Well most GMs of large corporations have degrees in business, law, MBA or alike.

Not saying Gus is shyte, probably knows how to run a footy club better than an MBA.

Ivan is probably headed more towards running a club than a commentary box.
Not many degrees in rugby league. Insofar as Ivan heading towards running a club, he's yet to achieve success as a coach - not sure how a coach thats never won a comp translates into a head of football.

In terms of the commercial aspect, Ivan seems to have left that to others in the past, in particular Pascoe at Tigers, while he focused on coaching.

Main difference between Ivan & Gus is their respective amount of time at successful club(s) - in particular in leading success. Ivan may get there but has not achieved anything of note yet. Seems a fairly substantial leap of faith to be earmarking him as CEO.

The best players are not always or even often the best coaches. I think it follows that the best football managers need not have been the best coaches. He's been associated with the game a very long time, just like Gus, and has got the best in the business to teach him the job.

I think Ivan would find its difficult to implement a culture of success when you've not experienced it.
