Panthers sack Griffin 4 weeks from finals

I wonder if there’s a chance Ivan approaches the Penrith board and says I’m coming back if you get rid of Gus...

If you were an established coach you wouldn’t want him breathing down your neck.
Certainly a possibility, you get the feeling that Gould’s shelve life has well and truly expired

I think most would think they could work with Gus. Coaches are all strong personalities and would think they could overcome whatever issues.

But when push comes to shove, no Coach has been able to work with Gould. Get rid of Gould and Penrith might finally reap the rewards of having the best junior system in the comp

I'm not sure about coaches being willing to work under Gus, or indeed any 'GM' or 'Director of Football'.

I think most coaches like to have a free reign over what happens at the club. The fact that you'd need to go hat in hand to sign players might be a major stumbling block.

Having said that, there are 28 first grade coaching jobs in the world. Beggars can't be choosers and all that.

Ivan asked for help.

Gus said no.

Hired Griffin.

Reationship strained over "coaching philosophy" leadd to losing Moylan.

Realised modern coaches can't do everything (evidenced by Roosters, Storm, Broncos) and Griffin took this as Ciraldo was undermining him on behalf of Gus.

Gus realises it was a mistake to sack Ivan and Ivan was right wanting help (the statement that he though he was right sacking Ivan even he wasn't was an admission).

Board chase Ivan for when his contract ends but Ivan wants now to help develop Nathan.

Gus sacks Griffin early because you can't have a coach in the finals going for a premiership when all the talk is about his successor in a few months(Griffin admitted he knew he'd not last the year).

Big media shit storm with fans blaming Gus most of all.
LOL are you part of the Panthers PR department?

I'm not telling. Honestly all sources point to Griffin being a shit coach and he couldn't maintain a working relationship with staff and players.

Broncos fans can confirm, this is true.

In his final year with us, Griffin thought the solution to our halves problem was Josh f**king Hoffman. How he ever got a first grade gig again after that shite is a mystery.

You gotta admit there are more signs pointing towards Gould being a megalomaniac, egotistical, lying media manipulator, serial coach sacking GM.
Gould would need to take SOME responsibility for not talking to his coach for 6 weeks.

And should take more responsibility for not sacking him at the end of 2017. If he's no good why try and save him? Waste of time.

I have no doubt it's a combination of what I said and what you responded with.

OK, this is going to sound weird based on my other comments and the fact I am a Tigers fan. I think I may have worked this out.

1. Ivan hold genuine concerns over Nathan's development at Penrith.
2. Tries to get him to the Tigers.
3. Nathan tells Ivan that he wants to play footy with his mates at Penrith.
4. Ivan schedules meeting to discuss his concerns with the people at Penrith.
5. At this meeting its raised that Ivan could come and join Penrith to oversee Nathan's development.
6. Shit its the fan
7. What ever happens next.

Still a dog act but a little more context to the picture. Possibly true like any of the other theories floating around lol.

nathan clearly is not even that good, i can't believe this is all over him. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he is Mitchell Pearce 2. However Gould did rate Pearce extremely highly when he first came into grade. I remember Gus saying something like Pearce would be the Kangaroos halfback for many years :)

Somewhat true, they look pretty similar to me. But lets wait and see a few more origin performances before we put the Pearce sticker on him. The sticker of shame.

Ha ha! Yeah poor honest Gus is the real victim here....

The fact Ivan is silent could mean there's something to this.

Because it was Gus who f**ked up by hiring him. Now they want to hire a bloke he has already sacked and no one on his board seems to have the balls to call him out on this.

I think he’s a fairly similar player to Pearce, and that’s a good thing. Whatever you think of Pearce’s he’s been a very good club 7 for over a decade.

It’s obvious the whole thing is over Nathan. It does look like a great short term fix getting Ivan in, but what then. Nathan is 21, Ivan is 47. They are both going to be in the game as a player and a coach for 12-15 years. Are they going to be a package forever? They are going to hold incredible power at the Panthers, particularly come 2021 when assumadly both are about to come off contract. They could essentially hold the entire club to ransom.

Fair enough...Which beggars the question ( insert drumroll here)...then why would Gould who is supposedly obsessed with "attack at all times" and is paid by the NRL media to watch...understand and commentate on every aspect of the game...every team in rhe NRL..not know any of this and hire him for his own club?....he's now fired him for reasons that everybody in the professional rugby league community ( certainly everybody up in Brisbane apparantly) knew except him?. ...was he stupid or incompetent when he hired him? Nowhere in all.of this spin does 1 and 1 equal 2.....an old joke pre youngsters was "what has one forward gear and ten reverse?"....the answer was then an Italian tank....Benito Gusollini?
