Panthers sack Griffin 4 weeks from finals

Panthers had a chance winning the Comp if they didn’t sack Griffin 4 weeks out from the finals. Only a slim one mind you because there’s at least 3 Clubs ahead of them who have they’re shyte together.

But now they have no chance.

No way their young squad survive the weekly shyte storm which will fester like the puss coming from Gould’s face.

Penrith were already one of the more mentally weak teams. But this should f**k their year for good.

Because it was Gus who f**ked up by hiring him. Now they want to hire a bloke he has already sacked and no one on his board seems to have the balls to call him out on this.

Yeah it was a big f**k up.

Though I still see more positives than negatives in keeping Gus around.

#2018premiershipwinners.

We've said countless times we want a real interview process.

Fair enough...Which beggars the question ( insert drumroll here)...then why would Gould who is supposedly obsessed with "attack at all times" and is paid by the NRL media to watch...understand and commentate on every aspect of the game...every team in rhe NRL..not know any of this and hire him for his own club?....he's now fired him for reasons that everybody in the professional rugby league community ( certainly everybody up in Brisbane apparantly) knew except him?. ...was he stupid or incompetent when he hired him? Nowhere in all.of this spin does 1 and 1 equal 2.....an old joke pre youngsters was "what has one forward gear and ten reverse?"....the answer was then an Italian tank....Benito Gusollini?

He was fired because he wouldn't/couldn't work with staff to overcome his issues as a coach.

Facts to date (stolen from WT forum)

  • Phil Gould sacks Anthony Griffin - both have had their say in the media as to why but what we do know is - they don't get along;
  • Cleary is friends with a guy that works at Penrith (David O'Neill) - they catch up regularly;
  • O'Neill floats the idea of Ivan coming back to Penrith to coach (exactly how and when we don't know);
  • Ivan tells Pascoe that Penrith have made an approach to him;
  • Pascoe informs Ivan that IF he asks for a release, it will be denied;
  • Pascoe informs the Wests Tigers board including Marina Go;
  • Gould says Penrith have a "preferred coach" in mind but to date have 13 people interested in the job;
  • Gould has attempted to call Go, she has not returned his call;
  • Pascoe and Go both issue statements to the media and public advising that Ivan has not asked for a release, and if he does it will be denied and the Tigers will dig in (from a legal and compensation perspective) and say they won't be pushed around by other clubs;
  • Gould issues a statement saying he does not expect to see Ivan at Penrith next year;
  • Ivan still has not sought a release.

I don’t think we can really claim anything as facts other then Griffins been sacked.

The rest is what both sides want us to believe.

FTR I believe Ivan’s gone, both clubs know it and are sorting out a settlement. All the rest is grand standing from everyone to try and come out looking like they won.

Gus has become bigger than the game.

Gus Gould; a Legend in his own mind.

I had always admired Gus in the past & usually agreed with his views. That was until he became Penriths GM.
There's a fine line between confidence & a bloated ego.

Sacking a coach mid-season for no obvious reason defies credulity.

I'm hoping that this will blow up in Gould's face. Who will he blame then?

Haha, "for no obvious reason". He sacked Griffin beyond this season because Dave O'Neil all but hired Cleary for 2019 and it was going to come out on Monday. And Griffin decided to not see the season out.

The problem is we have no facts to say what happened behind closed doors other than rumors and the opposingagendas of Gus(running Penrith) and Griffin(Wants to look good to keep working). The club and some private sources have said Griffin had fallen out with staff and players. From what we have heard the board approached Cleary which accelerated Griffin leaving.

Until we get more facts we can't say Gus is in the wrong here but people dislike him so it's easy.

What we need is to hear from Ivan.

Look, why don’t you give us Ivan and we’ll give Matthew Elliot a call to replace him. :smirk:

How does Cleary sign for 2019 without being released from the Tigers?

It's mid-season. Penrith is 5th on the ladder. There was no big incident (that we are aware) that made his position as coach untenable to at least finish the season. Griffin wasn't caught sniffing coke or caught with his pants down in a gay brothel or any other public indiscretion.

Sacking a coach while the team is performing & a chance of playing finals football at this stage of the season would have a big destabilising affect on the players (unless they all despised him a la Jason Taylor) It doesn't make any sense judging from what we know.
It would make way more sense to sack the coach at the end of the season.

There must be more to this story ...... or, Gould & the board have lost the plot.

That's why it is all but.

Last year, this year, we were/are expected to compete for the premiership. So where we are on the ladder matters little when it's finals time and we are playing football too shit to do anything and everything is deteriorating, same as last season.

I hope I never here Gould say ''for the good of the game'' or alike ever gain because its clear he really doesn't give 2 sh*ts about the game.

What little reputation he had left has now also gone as far as i'm concerned.

Whatever the morality of the situation, as a dragons fan I'm jealous of this level of ruthlessness.
