which bit isn't clear?

what Kingston must be signed for or something else?

What im uncertain about is the total amount of money we have to spend. As far as I know, we have $55k to spend under tha cap, but because of Kingstons match payments this year, he must be paid $115K for 2010. Now if our players are willing to take a pay cut of $60K to keep him, wouldnt that mean we would have $115K to move under the cap?

Osborne says in the article that he wants to stay for $55k and the NRL won't allow it

that coincidentally is the amount which the players cuts equal

so if thats the case, a $50k player would drop back to the part time squad, frees up $50K and with salary sacrifice we find $65K.
I agree a $55K player would drop back, but I don't think that automatically then frees up $55K that is already spoken for... my reading of the (admittedly sketchy) articles is that we need to find $115K (not just $65K) for that to happen?

Some fiddling about would be necessary if the NRL were to allow Kinga to stay on the back of some pay cuts, and my feeling is that it's not as simple as just finding a spare $60K for him... we'd need to drop two $55K players from the 25 to keep Kinga on the $115K, which still leaves one salary cap position vacant but with no spare money.

But dont we already have $55K under the cap, without the players having to take a pay cut?
they could have more space but they may not wish to spend $115k on Kingston when they may have someone else already that can fill his roll for less

I am sorry to see Kev move on as he was very happy but as someone posted why would anyone sign a plauer to 55K plus bonuses, well the answer is that all econd tier contracts have this minimum plus 3k bonus all clubs pay it it is not unique. This is due to the players association negotiating this rgeiygh the enterprise bargaining agreement.

He will be a loss to the club and a good pickup for the Panthers, I am happy he secured another deal in the NRL.

Says alot about Rickt Stuart. He rated Corey Hughes a better player and let Kinga go.

To be honest, id rather invest in Ant Mitchell, but Its good to know that if Ant gets too good that we cant afford him (and have no room for him) Kinga will always be willing to come back.

My mate at the club reckons that Anthony Mitchell will play Rep football. He said the same about Hayne and Inu. However he also said it about Tim Smith.

I don't think it is cut and dried that he is a Panther just yet. Another Club is very interested in him....

To Be honest Anthony Mitchell hasn't set the World on fire, like Hayne and Inu. The coaching staff don't think he is ready for first Grade and Want Kinga to Stay. Kinga Loves the club and its Fans. Once Ossie fixes him up.
His still waiting for Parra and hasn't signed with anyone.

Kinga may end up staying if his mate Grothe ends up getting that gig that he is waiting for .

sentiments aside, the question to be answered is how the nrl can alternatively manage match bonuses without dangling enough rope for heavily incentivised contracts to balloon a cap if it is to be counted in the same season?

Iv heard the same thing. I spoke to someone in the club to who said the same thing. A while ago I said to him "lost another half hey (name)?" Refering to Blake Green. He said "Yeah but we got better ones coming through whom we will keep.". He was refering to Trent Hodkinson and Albert Kelly. Yeah, so his knowledge doesnt fill me with confidence anymore.

As for Kinga, I think the with the his match payments loading to his next contract, clubs should be able to spread it out to a few years. IE, if Parra were to sign Kinga for 3 more years, we should be able to spread his loaded match payments over the full term of his contract. $55k base salary each year plus $20K each year for his 09 match payments, so its a $75K each year.

Osborne says in the article that he wants to stay for $55k and the NRL won't allow it

that coincidentally is the amount which the players cuts equal

2 things have been reported with kinga

1st ... he offered to not take his $60K of payments which count to the cap next year and just be a $55K minimum salary player ..... NRL knocked it back and said he must be valued at $115K under the 2010 cap (55K minimum salary + 60K payments from '09)

2nd ... players offered to cut their salaries by a combined $60K .... which by my calculations magically ends up what needs to be made available in the 2010 cap to fit what the NRL values kinga at $115K ..... NRL said no to that happening

the 60K in salary cuts from 6 players doesn't equal kinga's min 55K salary ... it equals the difference between what the NRL value him at and what we have available for the last spot in the 25 ..... I believe we had 2 spots left - Robo has taken 1, so now only one spot left

It all seems to add up to me. NRL are denying both situations as they don't believe either are allowable. Am I wrong somewhere? :?
