Panthers v. Heels

Strange game, I though the slightly better team went down, but Panthers brought the result on themselves.

A couple of thoughts;

A really poor controversial penalty try call, where the ball carrier was grounded short yet referee referred Salmon’s tackle to the bunker as a possible penalty try option??
Mahoney didn’t cross the line, wasn’t held up, he completely stretched out, whilst Salmon was submissive whilst prepared for the obvious upcoming tackle, yet Mahoney was deemed as denied a certain try! Penalty at worst , if at all.

Cleary kicked 2 from 4, sprinted out of the line to grasp thin air on Gutherson, for the decisive eels try. A poor Cleary game tonight in general, which is very rare…

Brown’s try, from a very early age you are thought to catch balls on the full.

May’s try before halftime should not have been paid, given Kikau’s lead up knock on, from the play before.

Great coaching from Arthur though, eels players passing whist driven backwards in defence was a real momentum changer !
As was the constant change of angles.

Arthur may have provided a panthers defensive line blueprint tonight for other teams.

Finally, referee certainly went out of his way to negate the big home crowd influence. Panthers could not buy an obvious 6 again or penalty.

Just one of those games, unfortunately…
They threw super high risk offloads and somehow almost all of them came off. Parra were more arse than class

The Eels were better between about the 65th and 75th minutes, and we were better the rest of the game and comfortably so. But the better team doesn't always win and an anomaly like this has so rarely happened to us recently that I can't complain.

Not a lot to take away from it to improve on tbh, wrap the ball up better in tackles, offloads was the only thing Parra did better than us and it counted for a bit, and stop running it on the last in the opposition 20 for f**k's sake. Everything else was of the same high standard, we drove their forwards and backs backwards all night, pushed over the advantage line all night, were generally hungrier and more enthusiastic, tackled and ran harder.

Maybe the bench got found out actually, Salmon wasn't good and Kenny a waste. Having Luke or SOS to come on instead of Kenny would have been really useful, and being useful in a game we are losing is more important than being useful in a game we have won.

Cleary had a stinker. His decision making was brooksyesque.
This is the reason we lost.

Hes kicking game was beyond bad. Every bomb landed on the 30m line instead of the 2m line..

Hes blatant miss for the try.

Ive said for weeks hes nowhere near his best. Effort is there but execution is way way off atm.

If half hes bombs had landed near the touch line tonight wed have won.

He needs to be 100x better next week

Not everyone but from many, there’s a decided lack of humility here tonight.

You really should be giving the eels more credit.

Some of the stuff your entitled lot dished up out there tonight was utter garbage

Dylan went from hero to zero, Fish makes a stupid blunder and Nate was barely sighted. Brian was a flip too.

I understand that playing footy has become a past time or second hobby for many of your bored players but there are no excuses.

The night smug died.

You have a lot of work to do uggsters.

Else this could be the beginning of the end.

Let’s hope the journey is not over.

Kiks played well until one of your players eye gouged him and sent him to the Hia! I mean wtf?

Also nathan deadset has put away the grubber in goal for 6 again. We did it once the other week and scored first time.

Parra were gassed. All nathan had to do was buikd pressure and get 6 agains from grubbers and they wouldnt of been able to hold out.

Intead the mindset is to score of every play.

Nathan was probably 65% tonight. If he was up near 90% we win.

The rest did what they had to.

People want to blame dylan for not getting to a bomb that he was a probably 3 in 10 chance of getting to safely... for a try.

Quick to forget he made one the best one on one try savers ive ever seen in the first half.

Had absolutley no right to stop that try. No other fb saves that.

Yeo, fish, had uncharecteritic error.

But as i said, nathan is the reason we lost.

Poor decision making and kicking game was deadset pathetic.

Ive i see another midfiekd bomb lamd on the 30 again.. ill give up. If you cant get it right just put it inti a corner on the try line ffs.

With how much we drive them back every time they wouldnt get out of their 20m but they were allowed to start from 30 out half the night

Their lack of forcing goal line drop outs and patience is an issue. It's not just Cleary though and it seems to be a premeditated tactic. Throw it to Kiks/Tago/May/Crichton on the last happens so often that it's not a surprise. It's stupid and persistent and needs to be put to bed.

Hi kicks from the opposition 40ish are of a general high standard and the best option.

Nathan deserves shit this week (no where near what Jerome does) but he literally put 16 other blokes on his back just last week and won a game on his own

No surprise we aren't winning possession now that the 6 agains are gone

Against the Dogs Cleary did a kick for a six again that was indefensible, a weird low chip that decelerated when hitting the ground.

Hasn't been seen since.

I can only assume it is a strategic decision not to use the tricks until they are really needed in the future.

A few kicks that went to hand instead of feet tonight though

When he is missing more tackles than Luai something is up

I thought Nathan played well; made lots of good options.

I am a huge Jarome fan but tonight he was probably the least effective Panther on the field. He needs to be attacking the line for me.

Need possession for that.

You don't win games with 45% possession.
