Strange game, I though the slightly better team went down, but Panthers brought the result on themselves.
A couple of thoughts;
A really poor controversial penalty try call, where the ball carrier was grounded short yet referee referred Salmon’s tackle to the bunker as a possible penalty try option??
Mahoney didn’t cross the line, wasn’t held up, he completely stretched out, whilst Salmon was submissive whilst prepared for the obvious upcoming tackle, yet Mahoney was deemed as denied a certain try! Penalty at worst , if at all.
Cleary kicked 2 from 4, sprinted out of the line to grasp thin air on Gutherson, for the decisive eels try. A poor Cleary game tonight in general, which is very rare…
Brown’s try, from a very early age you are thought to catch balls on the full.
May’s try before halftime should not have been paid, given Kikau’s lead up knock on, from the play before.
Great coaching from Arthur though, eels players passing whist driven backwards in defence was a real momentum changer !
As was the constant change of angles.
Arthur may have provided a panthers defensive line blueprint tonight for other teams.
Finally, referee certainly went out of his way to negate the big home crowd influence. Panthers could not buy an obvious 6 again or penalty.
Just one of those games, unfortunately…
