EVIDENCE :

1. Luke Burt.....somebody in this forum had the nerve to rate him a better defender than Berrigan. His defence makes Chris Quinn look like a good player.

2. Tahu : Tackle-shy winger who thinks that he'll be a top flight centre. Wait till he faces Tonga, Gasnier etc. He'll want to retreat to the wing very quickly.

3. Daniel Wagon : While he defends well in the forwards, defending in the centres is a totally different skill. His lack of defensive mobility will be a telling factor.

Yep Thats why Daniel Wagon hasnt played a full game at centre in 3 years or so, because his a lock forward and at times unfortunatly a 5/8

Theres also 5 players in a backline.. you have mentioned 2

If you had any knowledge of this team you would instantly label Peterson in that group as perhaps a defensive liability. More so then Tahu at the very least.

Don't bag balmainbenny cause the truth hurts guys. Burt is a failure in the 3/4 position because he is a speed hump of a defender, whoever said that Berrigan is a worse defender than Burt at defending is on DRUGS and is BLIND and does not know anything about footy.

While I would not mind seeing Wagon given a go out wide, I still have Memories of Gasnier running around Wagon at a certain game at Wollongong in the last 2 years, I believe they scored a try on the bell to beat us.

Tahu defence has never ever stood out to me. All I can remember him for is for scoring trys. WSe shall see next year.

Once again I would like to see Wagon at least trialled in the 3/4 otherwise we could put young guys in there such as Kris Inu, Delaney, Ben Smith ( Im a bit doubtful if he can cut it) or maybe a long shot in Josh Davis.

Well infact the Roosters have teh weakest defensive backline in the comp.
I would say the panthers are looking pretty dodgy(defense-wise) out wide 1.wesser's never been the best under the high ball or one on one defender, lewis and rooney are fairly safe but if they pair franze and howland together that could be heaven for tahu and grothe

Well actually I think that you will find that Danny Galea will be in the team ahead of Paul Franze. Danny Galea is a great defender and paired with Brett Howland they should be a pretty good combination for the Panthers.

VERY true.....you put Chris Walker in ANY backline and suddenly the opposition has the biggest scoring opportunity in the history of rugby league.

Mmmmm - however my memory of that day is seeing Hodgy steam rolled by several times as the Dragons strolled over the line.....I think Hodgy is a great guy and a top attacking player, but he is just so small and people just run over the top of him.

I have never rated Tahu as a defender....however I remember a recent game where we played them at Newcastle in a night game and Tahu actually put a few decent hits on Peterson - and Peterson wasn't just strolling into the defensive line either.

Anyway - we know modern day rugby league isn't about how well u defend - its about how many points u can put on your opponents - a bit of defense helps, but u put 40 on the other team and even if they score in hte 30s, u've still got em covered....guys like Tonga, Gasnier, etc are emerging as top rep players - and lets face it they can't defend for shit!

This coming from a Wests fan

1. Hodgson - stick to KFC adds mate because the only wing you'll be tackling is a KFC chicken wing

2. Richards - a bloke his size who has no idea what a tackle is. That's just shameful

3. Marshall -

So you picked out 2 players in a five man backline, well done!! You've completely convinced me that we will get shat on in the backs by all comers next season!! But wait, aren't there 3 other players you missed? Let's take a look....

1)McKinnon....Far and away one of our best performers last year, I'd be surprised if he missed more than a few tackles all year. As big a heart as Hindy, one of the safest fullbacks around at the moment and will never shirk his responsibilties.

2)Eric Grothe Jnr...Very possibly the most powerful player pound for pound in the competition. Solid defensive winger who can make some very big hits when the inclination takes him. Very difficult to beat one on one as he is very mobile and strong. Also reads pretty well in defence.

3)Probably a toss up between Petersen, Ben Smith, Josh Davis if he signs and John Williams. Petersen is a solid defender, except he has an unfortunate tendency to come in off his wing. When he stays where he is supposed to be he his a good defender, and like McKinnon never quits or shirks his responsibility. Williams is a similar player to Grothe who can play wing and centre, Ben Smith is also solid in defence. Not sure about Davis, don't even know if he'll be with us...

As for the players you mentioned.....

Tahu was paired with Matt Gidley, possibly the worst defender in the game at the moment. Hardly helped Tahu in defence. When he didn't play outside Gidley, which wasn't often, he was decent. Not great, but passable.

Burt started out as a centre with Newcastle from memory, and showed how good he can be there in a few games last season. Once he gets back into the groove I have little doubt he will be a good centre.

Wagon will play lock, and is one of the best defenders in the game.

A certain saying comes to mind: People in glass houses... I mean Seriously! Your saying we have a crap defensive backline and who the f**k is playing in your team next year??? Some Average first graders and some guy from the local league who was voted best and fairest with the Picton Magpies. LOL I don't even know why im bothering with this pointless argument. We may not have the best defensive backline in the comp, but we dont have the worst. And with our forward pack next year, it will compsensate for any shortages we may have. So go back to Hodgson and convince yourself that he alone will take you to a finals series!

Ahh we flogged you both games this year, finished higher than you in the comp. And you have the hide to make out like you are a great defensive unit. Please some sanity here.

Just for the record.....Points against for 2004...Tigers 534....Parra 626.

Wests Tigers v Parra 2004......33-6,18-2.

I think we are pretty good judges of your defense......9 tries to one last year fellers.

PS.....Luke Burt is one of the lowest players I have ever seen in first grade,if he is in the centres with Tahu and Peterson, you guys will be in trouble,no matter how good your forwards are......Imagine th traffic headed towrds the wing with Burt/Peterson there.....its comical.

Cheers.
