I'm chinese but have lived in Australia since '74. So I've probably been in Oz longer than some posters here.

I suffered some racism throughout my time here but mainly from uneducated people. Workmates, university people were all great and I never felt out of place. Funny thing was that Aussie kids treated me as one of them whilst they were picking on the Asians that just immigrated. (This was in the late 80's).

In my street, the kids here have friends of all nationalities and they don't treat the kids from the different races differently. It may be their innocence or they are just taught well.

Now if these kids start seeing/hearing all the farce that's going on with this John's/Tahu thing, they might copy them and start using these words or ask questions to others, like older kids, and get the wrong message.

But if this was prevented from the top, it wouldn't have a trickle effect. Prevention is better than cure???

The way I see it, Joey f**ked up and I have no doubt he has learnt his lesson.

But I'm desperately hoping he doesn't lose his livelihood over this. As much as I support Timana for taking his stance, I also believe that Joey is copping far more than he deserves.

I know both of these guys reasonably well and it doesn't surprise me that Timana did this. He is a blatantly honest, open and emotional guy and he has done what he thinks is best. Good on him.

But there is no way Joey is racist. His comments were well out of line but no doubt ingrained in him from the footy culture he grew up in. I'm sure he has learnt a lot from this episode and hopefully everyone can move on now without his entire livelihood being destroyed.

look I don't see it as a disaster of epic proportions but it was a c**k up and T should of realised that the information should not of been made public until the club announced it in a media release, if T is talking to a reporter in professional capacity than he's effectively talking to the public...

I'm not sure whether Ossie made a point to T not to tell the media but if hadn't than it what be his wrong doing at the end of the day..
Mate, Timana has always been a people person and has always bared his soul to anyone that asks.

In a completely non-sexual way, I may well have a man-crush on him.

I admire T for standing up in what he believes in, but for him to walk out on the Origin side for mine was an over reaction. Now it has cost Johns his job at Parra, I just hope they haven't been too distracted with all this crap & now focus on Monday's game.

What this situation. All previous johns stuff ups have come to bite him on the ass.

The fact no one has ever let him take responsibilty has led to this. He has now finally had to realise that your responsible for your own actions. He is not gonna lose his livelyhood. The pr machine has already started working in his favour.

Its a coincidence is it that he was coaching the aboriginal kids the day after he he stepped down from NSW. He copped his slap on the wrist by having to leave camp. What will happen he will just step down from official duties this year & will be back on deck with his jobs next year.

look you're exactly right, lets get one thing straight, joey is not racist but he is guilty of sheer stupidity and if anything, alot of good will come out of it, Matt Johns summed it up quite well in his introduction to his show and although i would of prefered him and the Parra club not to part ways it will certainly not deter him from contributing to the game in a positive manner in the future..

Johns is from Newcastle-Bit of a redneck town -LOL
Its a tough one.Beeing sth european although you might get called Mediterranean Descendant you dont get discriminated against like aboriginals. And to naive people who say they all have the same oppurtunity thats Bull#$it....If you owned a factory and two guys turned up both where equal and one was aboriginal im pretty sure i know who you would lean to hiring...
In saying that Johns has probably only said what most of us have said at sometime in our lives.....

I'm sorry but that is a load of sh*t.

I've just watched my partner go through a 3 year Uni course, whilst busting his @rse working full time shift work to gain experience to obtain his qualification in Human Services.... If he were Aboriginal, he could have walked up and got the same job without any of that. Fact.

I'm happy for what Timana did, and happy that Parra has acted on it, but I'm sure he didn't do it to incite a debate.

Let`s get one thing straight: none of us would have the slightest, remotest clue whether Andrew Johns is racist or not. But you know the old saying - if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, chances are it is a duck. So, until it`s shown otherwise, I`m treating him like a racist.

Great work Timana .

And great decision by the club to sack, er... um... allow Johns to "stand down". Seriously good work by Osborne - the culture of a club must start at the top, and Ozzy has taken responsibility.

Am so proud of Tahu for taking a stand and the Parra club for backing him up :thumn. There's no place for racism in our club, and it wasn't anywhere near an overreaction in my book.

And, imo, boo f**king hoo if people have problems with some aboriginal people of today getting some advantages in some fields to make up for all the disadvantages that have - and still are - placed before them as a group in our Australian society.

Hey, Bildo; I hate political correctness with a passion. Political Correctness usually just means the squashing down of freedom of speech. But seriously, man - if you think this whole thing is just an example of political correctness, you need to have a long hard think about it. Maybe read about it.

You have lost me , mate. I don't have a clue what you are on about.

Maybe i would, if i spent my life on a message board.

well I'm not surprised, maybe you should spend more time in here and get a little educated because it sure aint working in the world you're living in, welcome 2010!

well "I" think he's not racist given the comments that I've heard from people who closer to him including his brother....but hey! maybe I'm just naive.

Maybe you should do a bit of reading, mate.

Political correctness (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term which denotes language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, disability, and age-related contexts.

There is probably not much you could tell me about Aboriginals also. I have lived in Cairns for more than 20 years and we have a quite large Aboriginal population. I have done electrical work at 3 Aboriginal Communities and have also worked doing property maintenance on homes rented to Aboriginals. I also help a couple of young Murri kids with their computer. I could go on..;-)

A friend of mine who is of ethnic origin said the same thing. He said his dad had to put up with it all the time. He believed you should just tell them to go F@#k themselves. I asked him if he would let his children go through being racially vilified constantly.

He said no, of course. This is what Tahu is making a stand for. Until we walk a mile in their shoes, we cant begin to understand what some people go through.

Good on ya Timana.

Exactly. Just because people disagree with what he's doing doesn't make Timana wrong. He went through 14 years of this crap and he's fed up.

I applaud the man for the having the courage to stand up for his convictions and his children.

I don't understand how people can defend the actions of an ignorant man.

"No, Adolf was alright - he was just a little stupid! He was a good bloke, if you weren't Jewish!"
