Parramatta Council joins as a sponsor of Parramatta Eels

by StreetCorner 11/03/2010

Parramatta Council has entered a partnership with the Parramatta Eels which will see the Council's logo emblazened in the prime position on players shorts. The partnership, comes at a time when Parramatta Council is seeking to host the NSW Tourism Awards.

Parramatta Lord Mayor Paul Garrard is a Eels fan and the Council have long supported the Eels, hosting events for the club, including the recent Eels fan day. "This is a further step in a growing relationship with the Council as the City of Parramatta continues their unrivalled support of their local team," said Parramatta Eels CEO Paul Osborne. “We have a great relationship with Parramatta City Council and we are now supporting them in a bid to raise the profile of Parramatta,” Osborne said.

Historically the NSW Tourism Awards have been held in the CBD but the with Parramatta the geographic centre of Sydney, excellent venues and the Parramatta Council logo on some of the best legs in League, the City of Sydney better watch out.

So we have a logo with an Aboriginal throwing a spear on the uniform again. Id love to see that old logo back on the uniform, not as the main logo but somewhere like near the collor, the council one is fairly different, but there is a strong similarity.

That explains why the Town Hall has featured in Eels events in 2010.

Now if they could only do something about the trailer trash, bible bashers and hobbos that frequent Church St Mall before the next shin dig....

PARRAMATTA have posted an extraordinary $10 million turnaround from their record loss under former CEO Denis Fitzgerald.

After bleeding $9m in 2008, Parramatta Leagues Club finished the last financial year $1m in the black - and that's after it handed over $4.5m to the NRL team.

The remarkable about-face came after members overthrew the old board 11 months ago, with "The Emperor" Fitzgerald wrapping up his 30-year reign shortly afterwards amid an independent investigation into the club's operations.

Eels chairman Roy Spagnolo confirmed that property sales and rent from commercial premises had fuelled the turnaround, along with new measures designed to cut costs and raise revenue from untapped sources.

For example, Spagnolo's board has sacrificed its 55-seat corporate box at Parramatta Stadium this season.

"Selling it to corporates has enabled us to raise an extra $150,000 straight off the bat," he said.

Memberships have tripled following last year's fairytale finals run, injecting $1 million into the football club.

New CEO Paul Osborne made some tough decisions last year, cutting staff and reshaping the front office to make it more cost-effective.

The Eels are now on budget for just a $1.9 million Leagues Club grant at the end of this season.

Osborne also secured a new shorts sponsorship with Parramatta City Council's tourism arm last night.

It's a good result. Now with the GFC behind us, the team's form turn around and the club benefiting from NRL's push for memberships, we're looking much better than we were.

Again, it's amazing how the performances on the paddock can have a enormous effect on overall operations. Let's hope that Jarryd, Hindy & Morts can maintain that level of dominance for years to come.

That explains the scoop and the dig at the former board. It takes two to tango when you want everyone to move on.
As a 3P supporter during the elections, i want NOTHING MORE then to stop reading little digs at the old board in every positive article about our club. Massoud needs to pulls his head in and focus on what's COMING... for all our sanities!

x2 Jess. I would hope that the person at the club who feeds this meerkin with scoops would inform him that the info tap will be turned off if he doesn't quit with the Fitzy campaign. It really makes us look immature and unprofessional.

The only reason he's still "around" is because the Telecrap keep printing sh!t about him. Why the obsession ?

look, Dennis is a life member at the club and director of the trust and will always be part of the club, albeit on a smaller scale but there comes a time where blokes like Massoud need to just move on from the public back handing and just write about footy.
