Parramatta Eels Centre of Excellence Build

It will be nice to finally have a COE and training facility that the club of our ilk deserves.

I think we have been 5 years behind where we should be.

Took too long to get the ball rolling before inevitable delays with these projects happened.

Penrith had there one up and running in mid 2010s.

The fact the Tigers got one completed before us is a bit embarrassing imo as well.

But it’s nice to finally get there. And hopefully is another springboard to help get us sustained success.

I’ve been to the Tigers one at Concord Oval, and drove past it again today.
It’s f**king tiny compared to what the Eels are building. Our one is a much bigger undertaking and built from scratch, whereas they had a lot of the infrastructure there already.

No point comparing us to them, in more ways than just this one.

Didn't theirs cost $75m compared to ours which will cost $53m all these years later. I also fear that with inflation the way it is going that we are somehow short changed once building is in full swing and they realise that the $53m is now not enough to do what was originally planned. Anyone have any thoughts or insight into this possibility?

To reiterate , they couldn’t start to build the COE until the completion of the Memorial Road, Kellyville 4 lane interchange is done. Finishing touches are being done, once all the heavy machinery etc is finally moved off the site, then the COE will be completed reasonably quickly.

Funding etc has been sitting there for a while, just need full access to the site.
If anyone wants to know why governments are cutting road upgrade spending, see Memorial Rd upgrade. Horrendously managed.
But the delay is partially how Hills are putting funding in.
Hopefully they’re smart enough to prep the water/power connections

5 years plus later mate after the big announcement. Id suggest your inflationary prediction has considerable merit. Will more money be found or will we have significant cutbacks? Will the girls stay at Granville or move to Kellyville as originally planned?
Stay tuned I guess.
Do you think the acquisition of The Country Club has any signifance on long term home base planning? Maybe we will be playing out of Kellyville Stadium one day. Very exciting.

Finishing touches? It’s only 50% complete. Still 2 lanes out of the 4 to build.

Someone was nice enough to post this in the stadiums thread in the NRL forum.

The Parramatta Eels are one step closer to calling north west Sydney home after winning approval to kick off constructing the final stage of the club’s $53 million Centre of Excellence and Community Facility at Kellyville.

In January, the Hills Shire Council ushered through the approval to begin constructing a 6000 sqm high-performance Centre of Excellence at Kellyville Park, the crown jewel of the State Significant Development.

The Centre of Excellence will house world-class training and administration facilities for the Parramatta Eels’ NRL and NRLW teams and pathways athletes – including gyms, lecture theatre, review rooms, aquatic rehabilitation facilities and a cafe.

It will also feature a boardroom and meeting rooms and new female change rooms, as well as 40-space car park that increases the total number of on-site parking spaces to 330.

Once the project is completed Kellyville Park will be the largest community rugby league precinct in Australia, which will be “focused strongly on driving engagement between the Parramatta Eels and the wider community”.

“It will be one of the only elite training and match venues in Australia that will also include facilities for multiple community sports clubs, allowing grassroots participants to train and play within the same precinct as their sporting heroes,” the club said of the project.

The Centre of Excellence will stand beside a multipurpose community facility, which features a function and education rooms, match day media rooms, and 1500-seat grandstand.

The project was first announced in 2019 and has been jointly funded by the NSW and Federal governments, The Hills Shire Council and Parramatta Leagues Club.

Liberal federal Liberal MP Alex Hawke secured $15 million worth of federal government funding for the project, and claimed it as the largest federal government commitment The Hills had ever seen.

Mr Hawke said that the “lack of sporting social infrastructure” in The Hills was “the number one issue for families in our electorate”.

Construction of this final stage is set to be completed by 2025.

it seems to be a fair hike from Parra although you'd never be able to purchase that much space for a sporting facility in Parra I guess

You're not wrong. That's about a 25-30min trip from Kellyville Park to Parra Stadium.

So we now have a club out there and a COE, next year hopefully. All the admin is moving or already there. How long b4 discussions of our new stadium at Kellyville commence.
