They just had no idea in the last set they were trying to get up and play the ball quickly then the halfback kicks it on the 4th tackle.

Then the Rabbitohs have a player on the blind side and no one marks up on him.

If they just rolled around and played the ball slowly the time would have run out before the 5th tackle.

ZDC simply MUST be dropped then.

Halfback has to control that play. Run the ball to the last.
Also, kicking it out is a pretty poor way to run the clock, it takes only a couple of seconds for the opposition to pack a scrum. Better off running the ball on the last tackle, pass it out the backline, die with the ball (5-6s), then do the whole not giving the ball up thing (2-3 seconds), then push the guy who is trying to take it from you and grab his shirt (2-3 more seconds),

If Clay is dropped who do we put in there? You can say we must drop player x all you like but if you don't have anyone to replace them you can't drop them.

I wouldn't throw him in just yet and given that Denzal Tonise seems to be heading back to the SG Ball it looks like the club is shoring up their chances of making the finals as the immediate goal (EDIT - In SG Ball that is). Once Ball wraps up then a number of guys might come into contention including Dargan, Doolan, King and a couple of others.

Parra defeated Manly 42-0 in the Harold Matthews. I couldn't make it but I am told that the forwards played very well in general while Tui Afualo continues to impress.

It is currently half time in the SG Ball with Parra leading 26-6. Joey Tramontana, Troy Dargan and Michael Doolan have excelled in wet conditions. Again the forward pack for the Eels has stood up.

Full Time in the SG Ball

Parramatta 38 DEF Manly 10

Much like the Harold Matthews, Manly got all the running from the refs with plenty of penalties to help them down field but Parra were simply outstanding in defence. Cameron King was the pick of the Eels but Doolan, Dargan, Tramontana and Tonise were all excellent while Anthony Layoun had a solid return at fullback after a considerable lay off due to injury.

Can't take credit for this one. Got the updates via a mate who braved the conditions as well as the date/location change.

I'm curious to see if Denzal Tonise will back up for the Holden Cup on Monday. He was sent back to SG Ball to presumably get their season back on track after three consecutive losses (coinciding with him playing the last 3 rounds of the NYC) but they played on Thursday night giving him three full days of recovery.

We might have bought 4 of them next year....

As in we have recruited from their Harold Matthews/SG Ball/Holden Cup team for 2016?

Or do you mean Foran, Watmough and assuming they re-sign Hopoate and Lussick?

Because the first is interesting but the latter is largely irrelevant since they all come from varying development classes and the gap between the current Manly juniors and the most recent graduate on our books (Hopoate) is 4 years - a huge period of time in the realms of junior development.

*Edit* Oh my bad! Didn't realise you were referring to the 'bought not bred' line. Derp!

Parra are kicking off on Easter Monday.

Nathan Davis heaves the ball down field and Bush and Twal are there for the opening tackle. Parra are too enthusiastic from that tackle though are give away the first penalty of the game for infringing the 10m mark.

Solid defence from the young Eels as the hold the Tigers out until the last before French defuses a bomb just outside his goal line.

Big struggle for metres coming out though as the Tigers race up on each tackle. Twal and Markus finally make some in roads before Dock-Clay gets away a rushed and ugly kick.

Tigers with the heavy territorial advantage at the moment.

They swing down their left edge and look to have run behind a blocker but there is no whistle from the ref. Parra hold their cool and Miski is well placed to field a grubber from Te Maire Martin (?) before Parra earn their first penalty of the game.

Twal steams in towards the posts as the Eels then set up for a big right edge movement. Clay finds French who throws a cut out to Miski but the stocky winger is taken well by the cover defence.

French I believe it was rolls the ball in on the following tackle, looking for the in goals but the Wests Tigers fullback, Alofi, is on point. Parra again concede a penalty for pushing up early.

Tigers drive the all right up to Parra's goal line from the penalty set but don't threaten too much in the red zone. They look to find a repeat set with a grubber kick but Miski I believe it was, does very well to field it in goals and then fight into the field of play.

The Eels complete a solid set after that with Clay improving on his shocker first kick by hooking the ball deftly, finding touch 12m from the Tigers' goal line.
