dev contracts so they don't need to be named in flegg .... will probably play mostly reserve grade but I assume can still play flegg if we wanted

Who where the development contracts given to? Or was it just these 3 guys?

Yeah but wasn’t that list more like an offer ? For example they said on twitter that they offered Schnieder a place in the squad.

Seems like it was more of a summer squad than an official squad but I'd expect most players to be there for the year.

Eels 2021 Junior Rep teams show flare in trials

The Junior Eels Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Tarsha Gale teams were back on the field for their first 2021 trials.

With the 2020 season stopping short due to COVID-19 last March, it was good to see our Junior Reps back in action and taking up where they left off by hosting Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs & Wests Tigers.

On what was a rather warm afternoon at New Era Stadium, Cabramatta, the U17 Harold Matthews were the first game of the program.

They played three 30 minute thirds, which proved to be a real arm wrestle.

The Eels eventually finished in a draw with both teams crossing the stripe for six tries a piece.

Meanwhile, the SG Ball were far too strong for the Bulldogs on the day, running in nine tries while defending their line without a blemish.

The squad executed their game plan with precision and looked crisp.

The Dogs struggled to hold the ball, which never allowed them to build any pressure.

The Eels took every opportunity to capitalise on their mistakes and were clinical in their approach.

Tarsha Gale played in a three way against both the Canterbury Bulldogs & Wests Tigers, with a mixed bag of results.

The girls went down two tries to none against the Wests Tigers and then managed a two tries to one victory over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

The Eels gave away too much possession against the Tigers, but made up for it with united defensive efforts.

Once they found their feet in the second game, their intensity picked up and the girls started to show signs of what their team is capable of.

Clean sweep for Eels juniors at trials

Three of the Eels junior grades showed they're a force to be reckoned with, after a clean sweep in their second and last week of trials.

The Harold Matthews and SG Ball made the trip out to Windsor for their matches against the Penrith Panthers.

Both games turned out to be the usual pre-season derby hit out both squads were looking for.

While the Panthers were the first to score in both grades, the boys found their feet in the heat and upped the intensity to play some entertaining footy.

There was just a converted try in both games, with the Blue and Gold coming away with the win in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball.

The teams performances will give coaches selection headaches ahead of Round One.

Both teams will play against another traditional rival in the Manly Sea Eagles.

The Tarsha Gale girls fought back in their match to make it two from two in their trials; this time getting on top of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

The girls let the Bulldogs run away to an early 12-nil lead, before fighting their way back into the game.

Defence ended up winning the girls the game, as they piled on 16 points and conceded no more after their 12 point deficit.

The win gives the Tarsha Gale squad a lot of confidence going into Round One against the Wests Tigers.

All three grades are showing plenty of positive signs ahead of the season kick-off on 6th February.

We shouldn’t read too much into the Matts trial, the Riff only played their first choice team in the first 1/3, they were up 3 tries to 1. Parra tended to keep their first choice on. To be fair Parra were down 4/5 first choice with injuries .

Both teams will be there when the finals come around, I’ve seen 6 different Matt’s teams in trials, forwards in all games were big, fit and can defend.
Parras backs , the 1 to 5, were probably the best of what I saw.
