Paywalled, but it seems that Ben Smith’s cousin Kurt Fisher has signed with us from the QRL.

He’s a centre. From Gunnedah. Born Nov 2004.

198cm 100kg second rower now.
Recorded the fastest 40m sprint time for his age group at the North Queensland Cowboys

Big boy. 198cm, 100kgs. Played a couple of games of Q CUP at centre but at that size probably more suited to 2nd row

Not too sure if it’s been mentioned on here, Jason Demetriou will be head coach at Westfields Sports next year. Hopefully the club can develop a strong relationship with him and get the best players coming through our Matts and Ball teams
A stones throw from where we just held our open training session at the Fairfield Showground.

I think you are right that we need to develop this because there is a preception that we have become Hills centric (even though we maintained a strong relationship with Cabra Two Blues). Will that change now that Manly are no longer married to Blacktown Workers ? It seems so.

His Wiki says he is still the coach of PNG too, I assume he's surrendered that gig ?

Even if we are Hills centric we don't even seem to fully utilize Hills Sports either. We have 2 sports schools in the area, seem to have quite a few players come through Blacktown Pats and ever now and then a half decent team at Fairfield Pats.
We need to take advantage of this, especially at the sports schools. These kids have additional time during the week allocated to footy which only boosts their development. We need to get our people working in or closely with these schools, send players there to train with the kids or offer coaching and advice. Yes it doesn't guarantee that they'll come through our pathways or sign with us if they make it. But in cases where the $ offered might be similar the opportunity to play with their friends, stay closer to the area they grew up in, play with some of the 1st graders that came and trained with them at school or the influence of their school coach's pushing them to us might make the difference.

I'd be surprised if this isn't on our agenda. Lots of great stuff happening. We seem to be grabbing talent from near and far now days. Probably pis*ing off ppl like Gus no end. We are now a player. Obviously the handcuffs are off.

Its been dumb not doing it tbh.

As you say we have Hills & Westfield Sports in our vicinity and Blacktown Pats has produced some good pedigree in recent times for Penrith. Blacktown has been considered Penrith district forever and a day but its still closer to Parramatta geographically then Penrith.
