In under 20s there's more room between the shithouse edge defenders than between the shithouse defenders in the middle.

I believe there has been a desire to get Stone out on the edge and see how he performs but injuries elsewhere and circumstance have kept him in the middle - where he also excels. He is just a hard nosed merkin though, a real throwback player that thrives on contact and competition.

Backrow depth is fierce. Marata Niukore is top dog for EDGE depth in my opinion but a preseason will be huge for Stone. Both he and Leleisiuao missed the preseason this year due to rehab.

Good luck in the finals. Bundled out in straight sets like your nrl team
Yeah but you told us we wouldn't even be making the finals in September.

I hope we get your softcock pack of androtops in the finals at least that's an easy win.

Eels finish the season in 4th and play the runaway minor premiers the Sharks next week.

Sharks have lost their last 2 games.

Both first grade and U20's are playing the absolute bench marks of their competitions next week.

I think they have taken the article down on NRL.com (maybe it was released early by accident?) but Greg Leleisiuao was named the Holden Cup Team of the Year earlier today.

Leleisiuao was the sole Eel in the team but given that we played three of our best players in Troy Dargan, Ray Stone and Dane Aukafolau extensively in the ISP it isn't a surprise that no one else made it.

Was the rest of the team just the entire Sharks outfit?? I'd imagine they'll make up 7 or 8 out of of a team of 13....

Here was the 'leaked' team:

  1. Kalyn Ponga (Cowboys)

  2. Sione Katoa (Sharks)

  3. Jesse Ramien (Sharks)

  4. Phillip Sami (Titans)

  5. Greg Leleisiauo (Eels)

  6. AJ Brimson (Titans)

  7. Kyle Flanagan (Sharks)

  8. Patrick Carrigan (Broncos)

  9. Wayde Egan (Panthers)

  10. Payne Haas (Broncos)

  11. Briton Nikora (Sharks)

  12. Jake Murchie (Canberra)

  13. Billy Magoulias (Sharks)
BENCH

  1. Victor Radley (Roosters)

  2. Blayke Brailey (Sharks)

  3. Reed Izzard (Panthers)

  4. Jake Clifford Cowboys)
Break up:

Sharks - 6

Panthers - 2

Cowboys - 2

Titans - 2

Broncos - 2

Roosters - 1

Canberra - 1

Eels - 1

Most of the selections in the starting team are pretty solid. The Sharks dominated the team as expected given their massive season. From what I saw of Ponga this year he might have got in somewhat on reputation but I am happy to stand corrected by anyone that isn't isaiah on the matter.

Dargan would have been hard pressed to unseat Flanagan for half back but he was the reigning halfback of the year and if he had played the whole season in 20s there is a good chance we go a great deal closer to the Sharks' record. Aukafolau would have been a tough pick over Ramien and Sami but Stone probably would have earned a spot in the team with a few more NYC games under his belt.

Ramien is in their fulltime squad. He only played eight f**king games.

They have consistently shown a deference to NYC eligible players that have played *enough* NYC games while also playing up in senior grades. Dargan and Aukafolau barely played 20s this year so probably missed the ship on the ambiguous *enough* qualifier while Stone was probably just unlucky to miss out on that basis.

Ramien and Sami both played NRL which is a huge check mark in making the Holden Cup TOTY.
