One thing though... The man can't lie straight in bed.. We all put up with his heartfelt protestations about loving the kiwis and wanting to play where his heart was and then dumping the kiwis to play for Queensland. Now we are enduring the same circus. Do we really want this player at the eels ? AND Edwards calling him a fine young man is beyond the pale. And what about sticky and the " we only want players who want to play for the eels" song and dance.

I copped a spray off some halfwit on here for suggesting, well before this 'round 13' clause surfaced, that any signings so far out were ridiculous.

I say again, bring back the June 30 deadline. A three month cooling off period?? what a joke.

Of course its ridiculous, but they are the current rules and we have to use them otherwise we won't sign anyone at all

I reckon a few weeks for a signing window in mid year somewhere would be the best way to go, plus all the off season of course. Everything else is a signings blackout (except for re-signings and agreed transfers). And once you've signed a contract, that's it.

The Mole (haha i know, the bloke's a clown and is no more in the know than you or i but none the less, some people put stock into his shit) is tweeting that Josh has put off making a decision until later in the week, if that is accurate and i believe it to be, then it shows that the kid needs to further think about the move (or give Canberra a few more days to get the cash) and suggests that reports that he's having 2nd thoughts are indeed accurate.

If you don't think the Mole has any cred why mention him to back up your claims?

If his decision is changing that often as mole suggests then he shouldn't have ever signed the contract! I'm confident he will come

Not trying to be rude, but I'm not sure you understand how the rules work.

Papali has signed a contract with Parramatta, but this contract will not be registered with the NRL until after round 13. This is standard business practice with the NRL across the board, they simply do NOT register new contracts for anyone until round 13.

The rules give the right of retention to the incumbent club, and provided that they can supply a matching contract to the NRL before round 13, Papali can then choose to stay at the Raiders. However the Raiders are unable to offer him less money on the contract, nor have 3rd party deals supplementing his income, because he has already signed with Parramatta.

I think you're mistaken because you're thinking of situations like Cooper Cronks? He verbally agreed to a deal with the Gold Coast last year, but after the instability hit the club, he backed out of the deal to remain with Melbourne. However Cronk did not sign a contract, and so was not bound to be 'matched' by Melbourne (he could agree with them on whatever dodgy deal they concocted).

So, just to clear up the confusion here: Papali has officially signed a contract with Parramatta. That contract is with the NRL, but they wont ratify it until the end of round 13. For Canberra to turn things around, they first need to find the exact same amount of cash in their cap, and then have Papali agree to sign a contract to stay there.
Given that he's already agreed to come to Parramatta, that task itself is no easy feat, let alone finding the cash to keep him.

The guy is a heck of a talent, and it's natural for you to want to keep him; but as we've learnt here (the T-Rex situation) just because a player SAYS he wants to stay in no way means that he will be staying. All it means is that he's not leaving on bad terms.

If this is the case I doubt the Raiders will match the offer if he is getting $500k as reported. He goes pretty good but I doubt the Raiders would value him worth that much money

Bottom line is, despite all the bollocks, he is having 2nd thoughts, all the stories out of Canberra confirm this.

It needs to be sorted this week so all parties can move on, ill be surprised if it isnt.

For mine, the way the Raiders are going about it, he'll stay.

i wasn't aware the raiders would need to match the contract dollar for dollar .... i thought they just had a chance to make a counter offer, whatever it may be
