Parramatta Eels' Taulima Tautai arrested for drink driving

PARRAMATTA Eels winger Taulima Tautai has become the latest NRL player embroiled in scandal after being arrested for drink driving eight days ago.
Despite the NRL's tough talk following a spate of sex and alcohol-related player indiscretions, the 21-year-old has not been stood down by the club and took the field on Monday night when the Eels went down to Wests Tigers 23 to 6.
Tautai was allegedly pulled over for a random breath test at about 11:50pm on Thursday June 11 on the Great Western Highway at Parramatta.
He allegedly admitted to police he had drunk four schooners of beer and was heading home in his Jeep Patriot 4WD from the Albion Hotel in Parramatta.
"I thought I would be okay," he allegedly told police at the scene.
He was arrested after blowing over the limit, recording a second reading of 0.061 per centafter being taken to Merrylands Police Station.
Parramatta Eels are yet to comment on the latest scandal.

latest scandal.

:roll::roll:

There's probably been hundreds of drink driving offences over the past few weeks.

FMD. :x

Not condoning his actions, but lets just put this into perspective shall we, Mr Daily Telegraph.

Very stupid thing to do. He'll learn from this, As long he doesn't do it again.

Drink Driving is bad. Saying that, he is at a low range at .061

Being 0.011 over the limit is hardly being "embroiled in scandal".

Agreed, watch them blow this out of proportion. Yeah it was a silly thing to do but it's not a hanging offence. Watch them tell us it's all about League's culture and a game in crisis.......

No excuses he did a bad thing. But yes, It's low range offence so it was not like he was drunk.

IMO alot of people drive over the limit when they feel perfectly fine. This is hard to Judge when your a driver. People say one beer every hour and you'll be fine but that's not the case at all. Everyones body is different.

He should learn from this.

This was posted in the Round Ball Thread 2 yesterday.

Even though it's an Alan Jones interview, it's worth a listen.
With scum like the editor at the Telegraph, we can only expect sensationalist crap like the above.

Latest Scandal????? Spare me. :roll::roll:
Their latest "scandal" - ie. Timmy Cahill - was nothing short of disgraceful and the lowest form of investigative journalism. :x

A slap on the wrist from the club and a statement should have been released IMO.

Maybe he should have sat out the Tiges match. We certainly wouldn't have missed him.

While it may not be a scandal, given in the Cayless thread people were talking about the Board being proactive and transparent - this would have been another chance for them to show it rather than sit on it, say nothing and hope it doesnt come out.

Stand him down for a weekend.

Give him a small fine for attracting the wrong kind of attention to the club (and more importantly to be seen to be doing something).

Let the legal system suspend him from driving for three months and fine him.

Counsel him to make sure he learns from the experience and doesn't reoffend (or drive while disqualified).

AND THEN MOVE ON.

Non-event, but needs some small action around it. Get on the front foot and take any and all oxygen out of the story.

Yes indeed.
I believe that would have been the best approach, rather than read crap like this.

TBH, I'm surprised the article didnt accuse us of a cover up.

Maybe the new boards relationship with the tele paying some (all be it small) dividends?

BUT ..... Did the club know about it??? Maybe he did not tell anyone. Maybe it's nobodys business.....

If he didn't tell the club, he should have.

You can argue all you like about whose business it is, but in the current environment for NRL players, it is the business of every club to know if one of their players is arrested, even if on a minor charge.

They're going to find out about it anyway when the tele writes it up.
