Parramatta District Junior Rugby League Clubs have banded together to make a difference for sick kids, raising $15,000 for the Starlight Childrens Foundation during season 2008.
One dollar for every player and official registered this year went towards the total, which when combined with the funds raised from the staging of a Star Party saw the final figure reached.
It was a highly worthwhile exercise as it got all 22 of our clubs together and working for a common cause, Parramatta Junior League Executive Officer Terry Rose said.
Never before have we been in a position to make such a difference. Our clubs have been major contributors to charity over many years however up until now theyve all done their own things.
Whats even better is they all put up their hands to do the same thing again in 2009 hopefully we can raise even more next year.
A cheque for $15,000 was presented to the Foundation at Wednesday nights Parramatta Junior League Annual General Meeting, held at Parramatta Leagues Club.
For seriously ill children and their families the magic of Christmas is often elusive there are so many other pressures to cope with, Ron Erdos, Head of Partnerships for the Starlight Childrens Foundation said.
We are delighted with the generous support of the Parramatta District Junior Rugby League Clubs, these funds will help Starlight provide seriously ill children and their families with really positive experiences at an extremely difficult time in their lives, restoring some of the fun and laughter all children deserve.
Eels players kicked off a big week between the Parramatta Club and the Starlight Childrens Foundation on Monday, with Luke Burt, Joe Galuvao, Junior Paulo, Broderick Wright, Tim Mannah, Callan Richardson and Jonathon Wright appearing at the launch of the Starlight Celebrity Stars Auction.
Click here for more information about the Auction.
The Eels as a club, in conjunction with our Junior Clubs, work very hard in the community and its nice to be able to give something tangible back as a result of those efforts, Eels Development & Community Manager Gareth Holmes said.
We kicked off the Eels Out and About community program this year, which is all about building pride in our club and in the community, and working with the Starlight Foundation aligns nicely with that.
I would like to congratulate the clubs for embracing this worthy cause and I look forward to that association and the many others like it that were involved with week to week continuing in the years to come.
