Parramatta may be lucky to make the 8 next year

Yes, we have made some greats buys, but our backline is still paper thin.

Apart from Mckinnon & Tahu we really don't have a premiership wining backline.

Grothe has his moments in attack, however he is still extremely vunerable in defense, i noticed this a couple of times this year.

Burt, only a winger or fullback at best, he has speed, but he too can be a liability in defense and really struggles to make an impact againt compressed defenses.

Peterson, a solid winger but will never be a super star, he is todays answer to Joe Bartolo, i hope he goes to Union.

Morris, Who knows, a great ball player, but does have brain explosions and really may not be able to handle one on one situations in the backs in defense.

PJ Marsh, Brillant player, thats offcourse if he gets on the field.

Depth

Anderson, Mateo, Graham all have some potential, however i don't think we will see it for a couple of year.

Graham is natural ball player, he should be 5/8, name one player in Parramatta with a better cut out ball or long pass then him??, he is also a natural hole runner, something we lack.

Mateo, more then likely a lock forward...but can play 5/8, brillant potential however i cannot see him playing 5/8 ahead of graham if Graham is given the chance, that means lock forward his only option...which means wagon will more then likely be there.

Anderson, shows alot of potential, but yet again an unknown quanity.

We have the forwards, but out backs are far from premiership wining material.

Sure we have made some good buys, but it wasn't rocket science to work out we will lack something in the backs, i cannot believe Smith apart from Tahu hasn't addressed this, it is vital!!..particulary when you consider that Vaealiki & Kyon are gone and Tahu is an unkown quanity at centre ( even though i do believe he will succeed).......our depth is pathetic.

Alternatives

Dean Widders to centre as one, a great impact player, but i doubt he could handle 80 minutes of NRL each week, plus doesn't have the footwork or speed to stop opposing centres which are elusive and quick.

Daniel Wagon, he has played centre before and is probably more capable at this position then 5/8, he could be awesome defensively....and he does know how to hit a hole, he reads the play welll........and i do think he could be a vital asset at centre when you consider our forward depth.

If anyone has any other suggetsions feel free to contribute.

   Great article and always like your analysis. I do agree but we have depth in a lot of positions and i hope that each player is played in their favoured position. I thought we will kill it next year but thinking that SMITH is our coach nothing but a top 4 finish will be a sucess on my account. Widders is best as impact. Wagon is a lock and a good one. Does the job, maybe not as well as other but does it.

Thats it just cut us pieces before a ball has even been kicked, it's like some of you so called fans don't want us to win.
WHATS DOING!!!

I think Perenara has to come good. He is a traditional 5/8 and everyone has good wraps on this bloke. Just hope he stays uninjured

My problem with Perenara was that he is too inconsistent, and a player with alleged talent has hasn't come up trumps with quality around him??.........he had no impact at all with St George this year.

I hear their are massive wraps on his brother though??........but still we are playing for achievements.......not potential.

I agree with what you both say RJ and UTE, particularly about Widders being a benchie. He can't be any more than that as he is too ineffective when he starts.

I was savage on Ash earlier in the year, especially after Melbourne in Melbourne when he made 1 hitup for 5 metres, no tackles, 1 error and 1 mistackle. I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see him being any more than Premmies. Unfortunately Ron, as you have alluded to, our depth will see him in Firsts for a while I suspect.

I think Wags could be slotted in the centres, if for nothing else to bolster defence on the edges. Depending on the makeup of the backrow he may play lock.

The little I have seen of Feliti impresses me but his size alone makes me think he is a lock. I can't see him being an NRL 5/8....but then again I have probably seen too little to make an educated comment.

Henry Perenara has played a bit of NRL at the Dragons and Storm but I start to get worried when players are getting onto their 3rd, 4th, 5th club (Kevin Campion may be an exception but Tyran Smith aint).

The young guys that will play juniors up to flegg may be the ones that, hopefully, really come on and turn into stars for us. Josh Davis for example looks like a unit and could be something in the making.

What I would give for a Sonny-Bill or Matty Bowen....obviously totally different players but game turning in their own right. Do we have one them in the nursery as we speak...we can only hope.

I am more confident heading into next year than this year and at the start of this year I thought we could be Top 4 IF we could be relatively injury free and keep the cattle on the paddock.

I have said it once and will say it again, pinning myself on the statement....Riddell is the man for us next year. It's in my water!

Burty was getting talked up around that 98 premmies decider against the dogs. And moreso when he was on after 5 minutes when Stupid Kelly knocked himself on Corey Pearsons' shoulder after a dropout in the opener against the Drags in 99.

He would have been the last??

we over-rate our juniors majority of the time, loo at Canterbury, now they have genuine juniors, they are all robust & solid........yet alot of ours are cream puffs, we need to incorperate Canterburys and the Roosters style into our game.

We still are slide in defense can you believe that, i have the footage!

Thanks Dude ;-) , i think most on this board are still at the mile high club celebrating Mad Monday, look at our backline and questions need to be asked.

The optimist in me says that we will get a spark from our new signings, the forwards will lay a great platform that will allow PJ (if he gets on the field)/Witt some space so the backs can prove themselves.

The pessimist in me says that it will go pear shaped and we will resort to one out shit that we have come to know and love!

If we are injury free, I can see a good year.

its not that we dont want to win .. its just that we are sick of having high expectation every year and then end up being dissapointed ....

I'm one of those people, and am sick of it, i knew this year would be a failure when some on this bored had us installed as premiers, the reason, i'm never biased, i look at thinks logically and realistically.
