What's happened is that Baird has decided to leave the warring factions behind. Roosters, Sydney FC and Waratahs had the chance to get a new glitzy stadium. They've missed the boat now and Alliance will get renovated with whatever cash is left over.

I heard Ayres say that the engineers report on Alliance showed concrete cancer and it needed to be demolished. Two options were that it be built on the current site or on the Kippax Lake side of Driver Avenue. From the Govs point of view, it made sense to build on the current footprint and not encroach upon land which is currently green space.

Uncle Nick & Co bitched and moaned about having to play elsewhere for an extended period and now the Gov have left them behind. Oops.

It boggles my mind that they would pass up on the opportunity to have a brand new stadium for the sake of moving some of their games for a while.

Oh well, Stiff s**t, I don't care, the Roosters Suck, Rugby sucks in general and Sydney FC suck too, At least we're still getting our new stadium.

Does anyone have an address for Uncle Nick so I can send him some tissues?

NRL fans will secure the best stadium facilities in the game's history under the $1.6 billion package approved by the NSW Government today.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the investment in rectangular facilities at Sydney Olympic Park, Parramatta and Moore Park was a landmark result for Rugby League in NSW.

It means there will be three world class Rugby League stadia in Sydney – two in Sydney’s western suburbs and one in Sydney's traditional sporting hub at Moore Park.

Under the package, announced by the Premier, Mr Baird:

• A new 30,000 seat stadium will be built at Parramatta with construction to begin at the end of the current NRL season

• ANZ will be transformed into a 70,000 seat rectangular stadium putting fans close to the action. Construction will begin as soon as possible.

• Allianz Stadium will be upgraded to give fans better facilities

Mr Greenberg said the deal would also deliver $40 million for new centres of excellence for NRL clubs in NSW. The funds will be distributed on a "dollar for dollar" basis to clubs wanting to build Centres of Excellence.

"This is an historic day for Rugby League… one which will give our fans the comfort and facilities they deserve," Mr Greenberg said.

"Our aim was to ensure that Rugby League benefited from any allocation of stadium funding – and this package delivers that outcome."

Mr Greenberg said that, as part of the agreement, the NRL had committed to staging the Grand Final in Sydney for a further 20 year period, starting when the ANZ transformation is completed.

He said the new agreement meant that all existing arrangements within the network will continue with an expectation of additional games over time.

I'm guessing that we'll be having the 2018/19/20 Grand Finals at Suncorp or whatever years ANZ is in pieces ??

Seems likely. I don't know if there is a stadium anywhere else that could handle an event that big?

It crossed my mind, but I don't know if the AFL would be keen on us having our GF in their spiritual home, and the site of their GF.

Plus, the two main Rugby League cities are Sydney and Brisbane, so it's really a choice between the two.

Heard a merkin say on the weekend that ANZ will remain a functioning stadium during the renovations and its capacity will never drop below 50,000.

how is this fair? so a cashed up team like the roosters could cough up 20 million and eat half the grant while the rest of us fight over the scraps?
and what about teams like parra who have already built their own centre by themselves will they be reimbursed?

$1bn Minimum Turnover To Limit Parramatta Tenders

The NSW government has set strict criteria for would-be bidders for the $300 million stadium and also requires any consortium taking part in the tender to show a track record of at least two stadiums completed in the past 10 years, say sources with knowledge of the tender that opened last week.

Together with the transformation of ANZ Stadium into a world-class rectangular venue and the refurbishment of Allianz Stadium, this $1.6 billion package represents the biggest investment in sport, entertainment and the visitor economy in NSW since the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

The new 30,000-seat Western Sydney Stadium — which must be completed by April 2019 — will be built on the Pirtek Stadium site at Parramatta and is a key component of the government’s program to improve sport and major event infrastructure, compete with Melbourne and increase the city’s capacity to attract big-ticket crowds.

Infrastructure NSW said expressions of interest were due by June 22 and three bidders would proceed to the request for tender stage.

The applicant’s lead designer must have designed a stadium in the past decade that is still operational.

The new Western Sydney Stadium is the first of a network of contemporary venues that will enable NSW to maintain competitiveness in the national and international sporting and event market, creating thousands of jobs.

The new Western Sydney Stadium will include a new rectangular playing field and facilities for teams, media, administration, amenity and maintenance. It will be used for major sporting events by multiple codes including the Parramatta Eels for rugby league and the Western Sydney Wanderers for soccer.

The existing stadium will be demolished to enable the construction of the new Stadium on the site with demolition work expected to commence in early 2017, subject to approvals. The new Stadium will open in 2019.

The new stadium will be delivered by Projects NSW, a specialist project delivery unit of Infrastructure NSW, in close partnership with Venues NSW which manages the existing Pirtek Stadium facility as well as other government owned sporting and entertainment venues in the Hunter and Illawarra.

The contract to design and construct the new stadium will be awarded in late 2016.

There is a growing "Save Parramatta Pool" movement developing who are starting to become pretty vocal.

I hope they don't delay this project - like our good old buddies at 'Friends of Parramatta Park' did with this current stadium.

I'm hoping that the NSW govt will be able to steam roll this project through like West Connex and North Connex.

I thought that a new pool was going to be built at the old golf course or bowlo site ?
