Parramatta Stadium Rebuild and other stuff

I'll wait until I see the final design (which hasn't been released yet) but there's a chance the "upgrade" to the existing stadium could be staged. This isn't a knock down/re-build. For $300 million, they should get something decent.
And, as if the total cost of a completely new stadium on the Paceway site blew out to $900 million? That's more than the complete demolition and re-build of the far more upmarket 42 000 seat Allianz with all the bells and whistles. More lies and falsifying figures from Labor.
Penrith $900 million? Lol.

I think they must of included the knock down and rebuild of every home of every Labour Senator and Parliamentarian in that rebuild, all in the style of the Playboy mansion. Great deal actually. Land must be very cheap out that way.

Wow, I thought, PVL is going to cough up the cash for Shark Park ?

Nah …

Peter V’landys has vowed to keep the Sharks in the Shire by securing much-needed funding for a centre of excellence and to upgrade the club’s antiquated stadium.
The fired-up ARL Commission chairman said funding for the Sharks was a “priority” for the league, adding that the NRL would never desert rugby league in the suburbs.
V’landys added that the Sharks were a victim of a previous NSW government that failed to deliver on promised funding to the southern Sydney NRL club.
“The game is built on suburban rugby league,” V’landys said.
“Our game lives and breathes from the tribalism that exists within our suburban communities.
“We’re going to continue to prosecute funding for the Sharks with the government.
“The previous government promised it, even right before the election (May, 2022), but never delivered.
It’s a priority. We secured ($150 million in) funding for St George-Illawarra, we got Parramatta, we got the Bulldogs and the only one that missed out was Cronulla.
“So we’re going to be pushing it.
“We’re going to fix-up Shark Park (PointsBet Stadium) and we’re going to get a centre of excellence. That’s a priority for us.’’
Just over 13,000 fans crammed into Cronulla’s PointsBet Stadium at Woolooware on Saturday night for an elimination final against the Roosters.
The NRL were lambasted by some fans who felt it were ludicrous that the blockbuster wasn’t shifted to a larger stadium in Sydney, including Allianz Stadium at Moore Park or CommBank Stadium at Parramatta.
Sharks captain Wade Graham entered the debate by pointing the finger back at the state government: “I understand the argument, and it’s unfortunate (that people miss out), but we’re in a position where everyone has earned a home semi so we deserve it as well.
“The government should throw some funding at the Sharks to update that facility because the infrastructure there now with the new development needs a new stadium to sit side-by-side with it.
“They’ve looked after everyone else so they need to throw a little down the Sharks’ way.”
V’landys said the NRL would be sticking to their suburban ground strategy for week one of the finals in the future.
“People can scream, yell and carry on, but that’s the reward for working so hard during the season,’’ V’landys said.

It's a tricky one.
The Sharks sold a shite load of valuable land to developers. The developers have since made a motza, compared to what the Sharks sold it for. It looked a good deal at the time but Cronulla really haven't benefitted as well as they should have. On the eastern side, they didn't even leave enough space for ground improvements, which could have been written into contracts and designed with the assistance of the developers.
Considering it is a privately owned ground, they only have themselves to blame. They have no right to be putting their hand out now because of their own short sightedness.
And no, a ground with a capacity of 13 000 should NOT be getting rights to a home semi-final. That's just amateur hour on behalf of the NRL.
Given the opportunity, the Roosters would have brought that many fans on their own.

It didn't look like a good deal for the Sharks at the time... it was a desperate deal to balance their books and essentially avoid bankruptcy/relocation at the time. It's no surprise that others (developers) have reaped the benefits, and the Sharks are again cap in hand now without the assets they had.

True.

Also true.

Bugger!
Then we'll be the only club without a COE.
Oh wait!

The Sharks don't get a Centre of Excellence funded for the same reason the Commonwealth didn't fund the Raiders one...they're in a safe electorate.

If they weren't going to get any funding whilst Morrison was PM (like Manly got when Abbott was PM), then they never are.

So, state Labor have ditched the rebuild of Willow Grove. What a laugh that is. This is the same party that fought for the saving of heritage at the time, but now it has become too hard for them. The previous govt ensured that the building was carefully disassembled and stored for reconstruction. It's not as if precedents haven't been set for this kind of stuff the world over, even including here in Australia. This is just more of the do nothing cancel culture of NSW Labor. The claim of "fake heritage" is just an excuse not to do it. The cost is small fry if they really believed in their own words.

For the record, where I am working atm, the boathouse at the Sydney Rowing Club was dismantled piece by piece from Woolloomooloo, floated up the Parramatta River and reconstructed at Abbottsford in the 1940's, where it proudly stands today. We are soon to do further upgrades to extend its life.

There is this example of the Mortuary station at Rookwood, being dis-assembled and being re-built in Ainsley in Canberra as the All Saints Church

This is epic toys-throwing. Didn’t get the outcome on Willow they wanted, so now no-one gets it? Also someone better tell Dresden that rebuilding is offensive fake heritage and they shouldn’t have bothered.
Rebuilding heritage buildings happens all over the world. Only in NSW under Labor do we have a government showing no interest in it.

It was their project so let's just can it. Politics over heritage.
Yet, now they want to revive the Roxy project. That's great, but cut the shit politics for political gain, just because your party has been shown to be the cancel everything party. Already.

Lol, now that's a toy-throwing political post (in the "non-political" infrastructure thread) if ever I read one...

Maybe the answer to LNP pissing on heritage when they were in power and others now not wanting to play ball, is for Parramatta to build a miniature version of its former self, something like this:

(And yes, I'd have a miniature City Extra on it's miniature Church Street too - in memory of the precursor to present day Eat Street! 😁)

Sadly they’re are breaking up the old girl in storage. I read somewhere this morning that Willow Grove won’t go to waste as they intend to use her sandstone is some of the features of the new western powerhouse and in other projects. So what’s left of her will go to landfill I guess.

Gonskiies too

Another cancelled labor project for what is a most needed piece of infrastructure for an appallingly neglected area. In saying that, the Libs had also put this on hold before the election, but planned to eventually proceed, not cancel.

There is just cancellation after cancellation of infrastructure under Labor. The "Do nothing Govt". Just like they were for decades previously when they were in power.
It is even more embarrassing that they have claimed the higher ground announcing investment into hospitals and education as a high mark, yet the previous Govt delivered shite loads of investment into "schools and hospitals", which is the current catch phrase from Minns.

Also......

GPO clock tower - fake heritage, was disassembled over WW2 and rebuilt, remove asap.
St Mary’s spires - fake heritage, built in 2000 and hence offensive, should be removed.
Richmond Villa (120 Kent St) - fake heritage, disassembled and rebuilt in 1976, should be torn apart and put into the Willow Grove shed.

It's such a shame that Labor are using politics to further their popularity at the expense of heritage.

Oh dear, someone's gone fully (non-political) Andrew Bolt / Chris Kenny / Peta Credlin when decisions didn't work out the way they wanted...

And citing examples from 1944, 1976, and 2000 to try and support that views on heritage shouldn't ever be brought into the modern age - unlike the modern developments that have displaced such a heritage item - is hilarious satire... Bravo!

Just siting the example of retaining heritage if there is some desire and will to retain it.
The do-nothing party is delivering in spades. How many cancellations of projects is this now? I've lost count.
Fiscally responsible is a laughable excuse before you come up with that old chestnut again.

And it's a laughable excuse that examples that I have referenced from the past are not relevant. No matter what decade or century.
