How do we know the concrete cancer thing is real? And even if it is, does it mean the stadium is actually dangerous or will just look a bit ratty in 50 year's time? Just seems very convenient given the timing and their previous position.
Its a sh@t hole. Family has season tix to watch sydney fc while footy is off. Rust everywhere, all the seats are damaged and worn, bill boards signage above us seem loose and dangerous, ready to fall onto us below. We are In Silver seat class and last game I noticed the boards where held together with cable ties. We are some of the lucky ones out of the rain and sun.

The rust, are you talking about exposed metal or you can see this concrete cancer? I'm not doubting your observations but I wonder about under the skin. Even if you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there, maybe just for the experts.

I had Concrete Cancer in my pillars on my Units balcony. I recently had it repaired.
The repairer had to knock out all the old, buggered Concrete, grind back the Rio, treat it, apply this super strength Mortar and then paint. It was a lengthy process.

Can anyone guess who the original builders were?

If the government saved this $2b for schools and hospitals, you just know that it would be going to the ones that don't need it anyway.

Better it goes to building stadiums that everyone can enjoy.

Sydney CBD opened up overnight, giving Parramatta an insight into what their CBD with light rail will look like.

Compared to this..........

Surely this improves the amenity in an inner city precinct.
I look forward to Parramatta going the same way.

So, I was driving past today so decided to drop in, so here's some updates.

* Southern upper stand now has almost 2 bays of concrete structure in place.
* North-western lower terrace has been formed up for concrete placement. Reinforcement still to be put in place before the pour. This section has facilities underneath, hence the formwork.
* Western (corporate) stand is now being constructed southwards. The northern half was the first to be started.
* Eastern stand base (amenities concourse) is progressing nicely. There is some upper stand steel there laying in place, presumably ready for erection. I expect that this will be the next upper stand steel to be erected.
* A huge crane has been put together on site since I was last there. Not the tower crane that was previously there, but a mobile one. They were putting together another of these cranes today. They are rather large. For two such large mobile cranes to be on site, I'm expecting that soon, we'll start to see some serious progress to be made in installing pre-cast steel frames and concrete. (The Christmas break might see a slight slowdown.
* There was a hell of a lot of work going on at the northern end today.

It's looking good, and progress is amazing.

If anyone needs a roof on their stadium it's the Buffalo Bills.

From the weekend ...

Americans aren't big fans of having roofs on their stadiums, apart from the small group that have domes.
Places like Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Chicago, Foxborough are below freezing in winter, and yet their fans are happy to turn up even though there is no shelter.
There was a big uproar by the 49ers fan when their new stadium was opened in Santa Clara because when the season starts in September it can still be very hot there, and the fans roast in the sun all day because there is no cover at all.

Yet plenty of NRL fans cancel their plans to go to a game because they might have to wear a jumper that night.

Yeh, or there might have been a bit of drizzle on game day morning, and it might just happen again that night. f**king soft cocks.
But, I don't think it's unique just to the NRL. It's Australian fans in general attending all sports.

I've sat at the SFS, stood on the hills of Kogarah, Campbelltown and Leichhardt all in the pissing down rain.
After a while you don't even notice. Apart from my beer getting a bit watery.

Very different culture over there. The level of support that they have for their teams is frightening.

Sadly though, a lot of the poor bastards have f**k all else going for them.

Also, snow is pretty heavy. New stadiums might be built to withstand a blizzard, but older ones not so much. The Metrodome roof collapsed 5 times..
