It was a lot less confusing back in the day when it was Cumberland Oval where you could just stand on the wooden bench seats.

Those were the days. A few beers at the Woolpack and then we’d all march shirtless to the Cumberland Oval Speedway.

WSW must be wandering when theyl win.
I supported Perth Glory but the A league standard is just at a level where its very hard to watch. It seems to be regressing rapdily.
The peak was when Brisbane had Posta coaching. I thought if every team got to that level it be ok but its declined.

Hey PT&T or Pete or whoever.
I have recollections of when the wire extensions were added to the top of the boundary fence to dissuade pitch invasions. I seem to recall it was originally "barbed wire" but was changed pretty quickly to standard wire. Do you recall it this way?
Cheers

I don’t remember it ever being anything but plain wire. I do recall a few times that us kids were allowed to watch the game from inside the fence on the grass.

Yeh, me too.
In fact, I remember sitting on those wooden benches as well. Splinters and nails sticking out everywhere.

My Dad liked to stand on the tarred active fan area in front of the grandstand.

Haha. Yeh. When I became a teenager and a bit taller, I used to stand there as well.
My dad always stood on the hill just to the left of the tin shed on stilts commentary box that Rex Mossop used to commentate from.
Did you stand with your dad or sit somewhere else?

I’d go down in front of where he stood as it was adjacent to the players benches. I used to get autographs if I could. Wish I kept track of that autograph book. I must have ditched it when it became uncool. :dark_sunglasses:

I had an autograph book too, and recall that I had dozens and dozens of autograph's in it.
Like you, I wish I knew where it was now. I never ditched mine. It just faded away amongst the many house moves I have made over the years. :(

General entry.

Corporate boxes.

I stood on the picket fence just left of the players entrance. They were the days!

Great Photo! I remember when the barbed wire was put up around the fence after "The Riot". Well it wasnt really a riot, we just started chanting "Kill the Ref... Kill the Ref! after the referee Keith Page I think, put in a disgraceful performance (Harrigan like) and led Eastern Suburbs to a victory. The barbed wire was eventually removed and replaced with normal wire. As you can see it was very effective in keeping us hooligans off the ground!"
