I'd suggest it's not a good option for those on the Gold seniors card. $2.50 per day and all that. Am I missing something?
No. The visa option is best for irregular users. When opal first started with ferries, buses and trains, people were sent off to newsagents to buy an opal card if they couldn’t buy it at a train station. The visa thing eliminates the confusion. Great for tourists. What a hassle to buy an octopus* / myki / ez-link / navigo / travelcard / metrocard in other cities.

* at least the Hong Kong card can be charged and used at the supermarket or random food vendors.

This is why I get so mad at our apathy(Australians in general) and ignoring or even believing what our politicians are saying or doing. The majority need to be in prison for what successive Governments have been a party to and or signed off on. Even the ones who aren't directly involved but just turn a blind eye and or stay mute are culpable. Remember if you know of a crime, but stay silent then you become an accessory in the eyes of the law.

Technically a lot of what they have been doing isn't deemed an actual crime because they have made sure to change the rules or not put in place the logical and protective rules so that their actions aren't crimes, but I guarantee if we could do what they can and they weren't a beneficiary it would have quickly become a criminal act.

I know this video for most Australian's is way to long, just over 11 mins, but if you can pay attention long enough for those that don't already know, you may just learn why we don't have Metros and way, way, way more being built and we are all just arguing over a very, very small piece of pie while the wolves are feasting on almost all the rest of it.

Stadiums you say? Well if we got what is owed to us and actually our birth right just this one resource(LNG) is worth to us just over $140B a year. Yes $140B a year, well then we could have stadiums as many and as big and as small as necessary wherever we wanted them whenever we want. We could build metro networks all over the place and have free public travel too. We could have more hospitals, dams to irrigate the interior and bring back new life to country towns never seen before. Free dental. Create a steel industry. Fast rail would actually become a reality. The possibilities would be endless.

Oh but no. We will no doubt just continue to ignore this most egregious behaviour and betrayal by the people we elect to enrich and protect us, so they can look after their buddies and masters in the corporate world.

We are being so bent over and I bet the majority just don't even know it. Like really know it. Sure we all know we can't trust the pollies really, but most still say that this guy/gal is a nice guy/gal and better then whoever or support either party for whatever reason. But really look at what is being stolen ffs and both sides are doing it. In the not to distant future Australia will be broke. Yes broke and the corporate world will own us lock stock and barrel while our taxes and affordability of life will be through the roof.

Is this what we want or do we want what is rightfully ours but currently siphoned off into the bank accounts of the rich and powerful private sector? Our beautiful and unique homeland Australia could be so wonderfully different if we just didn't argue amongst ourselves and knew who the real enemy was and then collectively did something about it.

For someone who opposed the whole metro ideology while in opposition, she sure hasn't wasted any time jumping on board pretty quickly, when she's been able to be the one to cut the ribbons and has seen what an enormous asset to this city it has been since the metro opened.
In the meantime, Chris Minns (a decent, honest human) has been humble, and paid credit many times to the previous govt for their achievements in instigating such fantastic infrastructure. He is a true gentleman and someone I trust in doing the best for NSW. Honesty goes a long way in politics.

However.....

She must have read your criticisms in here, and adjusted her perspective accordingly...

See, this is why your opinions are no better than Pou who you criticise constantly for the same reasons in other threads. You are no better than him, despite the fact you always try and hold the higher moral ground against him. You just troll others as well.
Oh well. You'll never learn any better, and neither will he.

So, here we go again.

In 12 to 16 months' time, again the media will be loving the metro, but in the meantime, they will milk all the negative shit for what it is worth for clicks.

Let's see how this progresses. I think it was absolutely great that the govt came out today and said all the replacement buses would be free. Good stuff.

In the meantime.....

Update on Metro conversion of T3 Bankstown Line | Sydney Metro

From Monday 30 September 2024, the T3 Bankstown Line from Sydenham to Bankstown will be closed to enable the final conversion of the 130-year-old line to modern metro standards.

From Monday 30 September 2024, the T3 Bankstown Line from Sydenham to Bankstown will be closed to enable the final conversion of the 130-year-old line to modern metro standards.

When the conversion is complete, passengers will have access to a 21st century high-tech metro line with a train every 4 minutes during the peak, along with fully accessible stations and services.

Travel on replacement bus services, known as Southwest Link, will be free for all passengers and continue for the entire conversion period, until the estimated completion date of late 2025.

While the conversion period will be difficult and disruptive for many passengers, we thank the community for their patience as we work as quickly as possible to convert the line to transformative metro services.

When metro services open in the southwest, passengers can expect fast travel times including Bankstown to Central in 28 minutes, Hurlstone Park to Macquarie University in 40 minutes and Campsie to Victoria Cross in 27 minutes.

Major work includes:
• Installing platform screen doors at all stations between Marrickville and Bankstown
• Installing the remaining 81 (of 170) gap filler between platforms and trains across eight stations
• Refurbishing station buildings and platform surfaces
• Installing new security barriers at 81 locations along the alignment
• Removing and replacing fencing
• Final platform works including installation of signage
• Final adjustments to overhead wiring and tracks to metro standards
• Station services and systems installations such as help points, CCTV cameras and passenger information displays
• Public domain finishes including landscaping, footpath rectification works, bike parking and new lighting
• Heavy vehicle management bollard installation for station security at station entrances
• Finishing works at stations including painting and repairs to refresh stations
• Rigorous testing and commissioning of the metro trains and station equipment.

More information on Southwest Link bus services can be found here transportnsw.info/southwest-link
Once complete, this final section of the metro line will eventually be known as the M1 Northwest & Bankstown Line, completing the 30km alignment between Bankstown and Tallawong.

For more information about the Southwest Metro upgrades, visit sydneymetro.info/citysouthwest/sydenham-bankstown.

^^^^ ok so I have a dumb question. How can they retrofit zillion kms of bankstown line, platforms in 12 months, but they cant open the Eels zoom zoom metro line until 2032 ? Most of the tunnels have already been drilled FFS.

That's a good question.

Firstly, the Bankstown extension is just 13 km's. A lot of the critical work has already been completed. Accessible access to stations being one major milestone.
Originally, the plan was to straighten all the curved platforms but instead, (and this concerns me) it has been decided to install platform extenders to suit the metro trains. Not a good decision in my mind. It was done to cut costs but I can only see that adding this type of infrastructure will just add to maintenance issues in the future. A short term cost cutting measure that won't work out well.

As for the Eels zoom zoom metro - that was delayed due to the Minns Govt insisting on governance reports on the viability of the line when they came to power. Even though TBM's were already in the ground making massive progress.
I won't go into the details of the reports (as they can easily be found online), but in simple terms, these reports have delayed the signing of contracts to continue to move this project forward.
It was amusing that both the Sydenham - Bankstown metro extension and the Westmead - City Metro reports came back being recommended to proceed.
Labor have insisted there should be an extra station between SOP and Parra, but that all hinges on the sale of Rosehill Racecourse.
Therefore, that is why it has been delayed by two years. Pathetic waste of time and enormous cost to NSW taxpayers.
I'd just like to reiterate that contracts for future works for this line have still not yet been signed, so the delay may even be longer than two years the way things are progressing.
I'd like to think that the positive vibes from the opening of the city section of the Metro1 might wake this govt up to realising that more metro is the way forward.

Sooking much because they realise that modern technology is better than the system that they hold Sydney to ransom to and a system that has had failure after failure this week?
f**k the RBTU.
It will be interesting to see how Minns deals with this and his union comrades.

Calling the metro a "shiny new toy" just goes to show how salty they are about modern technology and how it scares them and their constituents. I was on it today. It was absolutely packed.
It is time for Labor to stand up to this shit. The Sydney public has voted with their feet. Millions of passengers already within the first 3 weeks. Reducing headways this weekend to 7 minutes instead of 10 minutes still wasn't enough.
Yet, metro can do that at the push of a few buttons. Sydney trains would need to ring dozens of drivers to do the same.
Alex, just f**k off.

Let's also not mention of course that if this industrial action goes ahead, how many more millions/billions of dollars it will cost us, the tax payers of NSW.
