I live near Moonee Valley.

Not sure whether this is an option for Rose Hill, but shows that housing developments and racing venues can coexist.

That short video shows us what? I get where you are suggesting though.

Christchurch is my choice for the 20th team.
It creates a NZ derby. They have a new roofed stadium coming on board with a 30 k + capacity.
NZ RU is struggling. We steal their players with the money we have to offer.

Their new stadium is .... impressive.

Agree with 2nd NZ team based on the south island (Christchurch) as a sensible next cab off the rank for 20 teams. Just hope that new stadium is earthquake proof.

That ground is one of the options we are looking at for our 12th home game next year.

And if it eventuates we won't be playing Wahs.

As i believe we will be looking at being a part of double header to obivously showcase the new ground

Its a link to a website rather than a video.

The website shows how an underdeveloped piece of land within 6km of the CBD of Australia's soon to be largest city is being transformed over a 20 year period into a valuable new urban precinct that honours its legacy and allows multiple co-existing land uses to flourish.

But apart from that it doesn't show much.

File this under 'other stuff' and let me know if its off-topic as I don't want to clog up this thread.

Article today on news.com.au about the challenges that Melbourne faces:

# 9 Million people by 2050 (currently at 5.5 Million)
# NIMBY
# Local Councils resistant to high rise developments
# State taking over planning controls
# State struggling to deliver supporting road and rail.

Not sure it is sustainable to grow this quickly.

I did like the comment in the article about how it will create 'slums' which was an inaccurate criticism of Parramatta 10 years ago given what has transpired.

So it’s the same as NSW. The Minister has oversight over planning and we have State Significant Developments which takes approvals away from councils.

This is not the politics thread, but take what you read in the Murdoch press with a grain of salt re: Victoria, as they have a ongoing jihad against every successive labor government.

As for failure to deliver projects, it is pretty clear that successive LNP federal governments roadblocked or filibustered when it came to critical Vic projects like Metro Tunnel, Airport Rail Link and Suburban Rail Link. It’s not hard to compare the funding rails-run that NSW received for Westconnex, Sydney Metro etc vs the um-er f**kery that went on with Victoria.

Yeah, funny how things changed post 2022.

You could definitely file the article under their 'immigration is bad' campaign...

Didn't want to get political. Was just interested in the planning and infrastructure delivery challenges that they have.

But what is its actualy growth rate like ?

I lived there for a while and Victoria's greatest export was Victorians, I couldn't stand the weather any longer so I left.
Nearly 20% in the last 10 years and predicted to be another 64% between now and 2050. Growing at a much faster rate than Sydney.

This is the right thread for it for sure and you make a valid point.
Melbourne's population is forecast to be larger than Sydney's by 2030.

What I see that they are doing wrong is not prioritizing building up, rather than out, other than in the CBD.
The further the urban sprawl, the more infrastructure is required.
Sydney is somewhat limiting its urban sprawl and creating many high-rise clusters which provides housing quickly and uses existing infrastructure. A far more sensible approach imo.

Agreed. They’ve turned their attention to infill development in recent times, but only after creating massive sprawl. That creates flow challenges for roads, shops, health care and public transport which they well behind Sydney on.
