When you consider that trial games are used to promote rugby league, in areas that usually don't get to see live games, enforcing this suspension is really only screwing the fans.

I would have thought that Tahu running onto members equity in Perth would have been of much greater benefit to rugby league than him sitting out a pointless suspension, from 2 years ago, in the pre season.

sometimes forwards beat backs at sprints and races too!

140kg is a massive amount to lift - i would say that less of an insult to the forwards, as it's a testament to how fit Buetts was!

i'm more shocked that a ranga held the record for so long. wouldn't constant sun on game days weaken his ability

Yep it's very sad. They suspended him from the Aboriginal all-stars team too.

It's the NRL doing their best at anti-promotion.

they must be trying to punish him for ever considering that lesser sport Rugby union as an option

For mine Rules are Rules and I actually think they should be suspended for Rep and Premiership games.

Trials should not count.

If it wasn't tahu but if we're talking about Gallen and the sharks organized 20 trial games against country teams, we would be screaming

The NRL probably wouldn't recognise all 20 as official trials so it wouldn't matter, but yes I agree that no trial should be able to be used to serve a suspension in any case

i think games should carry a ranking eg.
100 points for an ordinary game
50 points for a trial
200 for SOO
150 for final
200 for GF
the penalty system can be left as is and you only serve have to serve a suspension for over 100 points as it is now if the game is worth less than your points against.
It would mean you need a penalty of 200 points to miss a GF.

The NRL only recognizes 2 Trials under the Trial system. I always thought it was 1 trial but it appears to be two. After those are played any remaining suspension must be served during the regular rounds.

i see what you're saying buddy - but if i had NO carryover points and i went into a GF Qualifyer, i would be pretty tempted to start swinging the arm

This is typical smellygraph reporting. Lets fill the back pages with meaningless colour pics of footballers in various stages or pre-season training drills, and promises of what fans can expect (dream about) going forward this season out of said players. If I sound cynical, I don't mean to be. In Tahu's case I would rather hear how he expects to fit back into the team and his thoughts on seeing a gruelling season out rather than seeing how much he can press. When Parra enter a team in the Lift-olympics I might give this story more credence. My first rant for the year..............
