That is very interesting. They were real leaders those two. We have had very few since.Ray Price played 259 games across 11 seasons for Parramatta. In that time we played in 10 final series, 7 grand finals and won 4 premierships. A record of over 90% finals and over 60% grand final appearances, as well as over 35% premiership record.
Mick Cronin played 216 games across 10 seasons for Parramatta. In that time we played in 9 final series, 6 grand finals and won 4 premierships. Obviously zero wooden spoons. A record of 90% finals and 60% grand final appearances, as well as over 40% premiership record.
The one season they didn't make the finals, they were only one position away from the finals (6th in 1980).
In the 29/30 seasons prior to their arrival, we only played in 6 final series (around 20%), for no grand final appearances (and obviously no premierships). We won 11 wooden spoons (around 37%).
In the 37 seasons since their departure, we have played in 15 final series (around 40%), and 3 (8%) grand final appearances (and obviously no premierships). We won the same amount of wooden spoons as grand final appearances in that time. Incidentally, Brad Arthur has been a part of 67% of those wooden spoons the club has had since both Price and Cronin joined the club.
We could really do with a couple of winners like Pricey and Crow at the moment...
Agree. And Matterson only playing 23 minutes? Am I reading that correctly? Surely he can play much more than that?Given the time Tuilagi is getting, I think we're better off having Hands in the 17. Lussick is going to be a better player for us if he only has to play for 50-60 minutes a week.
Cronin was 29 when Gibson came to Parra and had played for Aust, NSW and Country Origin. He had been with Parra since 1977 and played 90 FG games for us. Price was also 28 and had played 110 games for the Eels since 1976, as well as Aust., NSW, City and represented Aust in Union. That is very interesting. They were real leaders those two. We have had very few since.
How old were those two when Jack Gibson coached them?
I wonder if the great man made them into the leaders they became.
I think it would be cool if teams got a point for a charge down recovery. But if the kicking team recovers it they should have to do a drop out from where it was recovered.I have seen that the NRL has got way more comprehensive stats on their website now. I really think they follow my suggestions. I was all over this 3 years ago.
One thing I noticed is they keep a stat on "charge downs" but not "charge down recoveries".
Anyone know if it is only in the stats as a "charge down" if it actually leads to a change of possession?
It will never happen. Kickers have become a protected species.I think it would be cool if teams got a point for a charge down recovery. But if the kicking team recovers it they should have to do a drop out from where it was recovered.
