I've been thinking about the NRL's membership promotion, can you just imagine the embarrasment if, Hypathetically thinking ofcourse, Dennis was still our CEO and he held the same opinion about club membership than he had this time 12 months ago? it's great that we have a CEO with enough balls to go far beyond the call of duty to achieve this goal...if Todd Greenberg went to Lebanon to do the same he's be praised from piller to post

Fair go Stagge, Fitzy would have gone to Vegas.

TBH, one thing that has been over looked with the whole membership discussion, is the rebranding of memberships and good vibe around the club. You cant really quantify the benefit of that to the club.

I'm sure there'll be some who can.

I'll settle for a curry pie.

I wish i could find a decent Curry Pie.

To be serious though, I'm not sure how successful this promotion may be, but i like the thinking outside the box. As the saying goes "if you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten."

so anything less than an equal performance in memberships for 2011 will be seen as a failure by the board?

The number of bums on seats is the single most important thing that any sport in the world values most bar none. Anyone that doubts that is away with the fairies.

Just look at every major billion dollar TV rights deal around the world ffs. They are all consistently played in front of full houses, even AFL. We may curse the injustices of our deals, but the simple fact is that the consistently biggest crowd drawing sport in Oz has also got the biggest money deal. Bums on seats invariably draw the most eyeballs to the box. Leagues' win in the ratings last year (and it is debatable) was a first and what experts call an outliner.

I know that a lot of people will argue the merits of the AFL's contracts Vs the NRL's, with demographics and all, but really all that separates the two sports of significance is stadium crowd numbers and junior playing numbers which really can be attributed to more people going to the game in the first place and a superior development program due to the money from the better TV deal. See how people participating physically in a sport either going to watch a sport and or playing it is intimately related to viewers, or as networks claim potential viewers and money then available to it. Networks love full stadiums and the hype and buzz associated with it and so do the viewers, they feed off it. State of Origin is a perfect example.

We must get more bums on seats, the life blood of any sport and then everything else that is good for the sport will follow. To not appreciate that is so totally off the mark, ridiculous and naive.

So are you a member yet, and if not why not? If it is due to anything other then monetary difficulty, then it is simply a BULLSH*T EXCUSE!!!

and that is something we can agree on Ram,

The only thing is participation does not necessarily flow on to TV money or audience, as I believe netball participation rates are one of, if the not highest number of any sport.

What I meant was the affect that the stadium numbers at the game, which is a form of physical participation, have as a great driver for kids in particular to play the game.

I'm glad we agree on this one, but it is still something some people just can't seem to see as worthy to put a great deal of effort into and kind of dismiss its true value, which I think is absolutely enormous.

Well I wouldn't know exactly why he was there, cause I just read the online headline. I refuse to click on any links in any online paper that is promoting other sports at the expense of Rugby League. Maybe if everyone did this they would soon get the message that the public have had enough of their sh*t and the free ride everyone is getting of the back of League.

But back to Fitzy, if he was there on official business, then he should have stated it very clearly so as the press and/or AFL couldn't get any real mileage out of him, he has been around long enough to know better. Something like "I would have loved nothing more then to have been able to watch my beloved Eels play but work has gotten in the way this time."

You only read the headlines but still feel the right to make an ill informed comment. You sir, are a pelican.
