Parramatta to NOT move Dragons blockbuster to Homebush

Parramatta also realise that we could start like a clapped out Leylend P76 like we usually do too.

The thing people forget is that there is no bigger statement for Sydney League when a local ground gets a full house. If Parra, Kogarah, Brookvale, Penrith, Leichhardt and Campbelltown each get one or 2 packed home games this year that will send a bigger message than filling ANZ to 3/8 capacity. All those sides should have strong years - the biggest issue in the game is the thought that Sydney is slowly dying as a League stronghold.

Any Queenslander at Origin time will tell you that having a sellout is a far better statement than having a large crowd figure. If the Crowd figure was the be all and end all, then all of Brisbane's away games would be at Lang Park, and every Origin would be at ANZ.

Besides, anyone interested enough to buy a ticket will certainly watch it on TV if they can't get one. And if the hype would make a 20k crowd into a 30k crowd, the same hype would make a 700k TV audience into a 1 million TV audience. There is NO ONE that could say they would miss seeing this game.

Besides, Parra haven't sold out yet, have they?

Long time reader, occasional poster, Dio-era Sabbath remains my fave, love a loud Strat nearly as much as a cranked Les Paul, and have thought you a complete dribbler...until this post. Well said!

They did some very good albums especially the later one they did (Dehumanizer (I is a tune!)), but you cannot beat the Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage albums with Ozzy.

Ahem, anyways...

If its not sold out yet, then no-one can complain about missing out surely? They should keep it at there own place, its only a league game. Save the bigger venues for the bigger matches that may get a good crowd.

This Year?

Who would have thought that a HOME team will play their HOME game at their HOME ground? It's unheralded.

Wow... that's some logic .

Can't sell out a 21K ground in the heartland of one of the team's territories, but will sell 35-40K at a ground where both sets of fans have to travel - a ground with worse viewing experience and less atmosphere when half-full.

This happens. There have been several games over the past few years that have been declared "sell-outs" well in advance, yet when the official crowd number is posted we are left scratching our heads.

Do you honestly think that only 20-21k (even less) would have turned up to ANZ Stadium for this match with heavy promotion?

Remembering Souths v Easts at the same ground to open the season a couple of years ago got 30,000.

Be honest here, I know you can do it.

Blame the media for the premature calling of a "sell-out" then... I'm sure because of all the carry on about moving this game, many people will assume it is already sold out at Parra (which is not the case) and not bother - hence the empty seats.

Also factor in STHs who don't turn up because the appointed match time (eg a quick dash back after work on Friday night) isn't one that suits them.

I think it would have drawn marginally more than 20-21 at ANZ on a Friday night (say 25K?) - but would have drawn a lot more (40+K) if it was adequately planned (in advance, ie when the draw came out) as a Saturday night or Sunday arvo start of season blockbuster.

The fact that thoughts about moving this match only happened two weeks before kickoff (and failed to take into account contracts the club had entered with it's home staidum and with its STHs and home sponsors) show that such a move was doomed to start with.

There's no replacement for good planning - and suggestions around this match simply aren't it.

Well I'll be one season ticket holder that won't be going, so there's one empty seat. max crowd is then 20,999.

I'm one that won't be going to Parramatta, but likely would have gone to ANZ (I can park at work and walk up).

Give your ticket to a mate then.

dont joke about it. such a thing will be a rare occurance in 10 years time. i think it'll be sad. but at the same time, if every match in the elite competition of rugby league in this country isnt being played at all-seater venues by 2020, then the people administering the game (comp and club) need to be shot.

the clubs and the competition need to rally government to improve infrastructure. they need to be appear capable & professional, not amatuerish and basket cases.

and it doesnt help when clubs with multiple venues such as WT & SGI hog it.

Why would you buy a season ticket if your not gonna go to the games?

One of the best seats in the house, guaranteed seat at the games you can get to, guaranteed seat in the case of a sell out and member benefits are just a few I can think of. This year is the 19th season I've got a season ticket, and it's sometimes not possible to get to all of the games

Indeed, not to mention more money going to your club :)
Working on a 7 day roster I know I wqont be able to attend every home game, that doesn't stop me paying for my membership and supporting my team. :)

I cannot believe they didn't see the potential for a huge crowd when the friggin draw came out, thus scheduling the game for ANZ from the word go.

I agree with you there. It should have penciled in for the bigger stadium immediately.

The timing wasnt the problem, osbourne just didnt want to gamble moving the game as it might end up costing them more to move it.

Our contract with Parra Stadium (signed well before Osbourne was CEO) only allows for 2 home games away from Parra (i.e. at ANZ), otherwise there is a big penalty. Those 2 were already pencilled in for the Dogs and Bunnies which will likely draw bigger crowds than the Dragons would have.

Some people just like a whinge Brutus. When a Telecrap story like this causes a ruckuss, it sort of polarises the thinkers from the Telecrap readers.

Thankfully they didn't move the game. 18,000 at the first home game...

Struggling like Jarryd Hayne was tonight.

I think you'll find with the increase of ticketed members this year, a lot of crowds will be over-estimated. Instead of having pot shots, why don't you comment on the quality and the close contest of the season opener instead of just being so negative. Go support union if that's your attitude.
