Parramatta to NOT move Dragons blockbuster to Homebush

I think you'll find with the increase of ticketed members this year, a lot of crowds will be over-estimated. Instead of having pot shots, why don't you comment on the quality and the close contest of the season opener instead of just being so negative. Go support union if that's your attitude.

Relax. How was what I posted negative at all? Would you have liked to see that crowd at ANZ? Because I don't as it would be a horrible look for the game in the opening round. At least 18,000 at Parramatta looked pretty full.

Yeah I spose so. Consider some Dragons fans were whingeing so much about it so much about it not being played at ANZ and they missed out on tickets, it's a bit contradictory since there'd have been 2000 or so spare. I'm just happy we had a cracker of a game to start the season.

The 18K crowd figure should be viewed in its correct context.

If Parramatta Stadium still held 27k then the crowd would probably have been something like 25k.

One of the reasons for this is the increase in ticketed members. If a ticketed member doesn't show up that seat remains vacant.

It also seems to me that they don't sell the seats in the first couple of rows of the stands any more. I assume this is because the view is restricted by the safety rail and the advertising covering it.

The fact of the matter is that I tried to buy tickets for me and a friend over a week ago. The entire ground was sold out except for the non-alcohol section. I was happy to sit in that area - he wasn't - so we didn't buy tickets.

It looks like the planets are going to need to align for a sell-out crowd at Parramatta to actually draw 20-thousand in its current state. It's a ridiculous state of affairs for a ground that used to be able to hold considerably more than that.

Had the match been played at Homebush the crowd would have been much bigger than 18-thousand.

As I outlined in my post above I couldn't get tickets and I tried over a week ago.

A game like this also had the potential to attract a lot of casual fans who are happy to come along if it's looking like being a bit of an event.

It also had the potential for a big walk-up crowd on a nice night in Sydney.

Now I'm not saying whether the game should have been moved or not, just that you'd be looking at a different-sized crowd had the match been at Homebush.

Another thing, people will ony buy seats with a certain view or stay home. IE, seats on the 50 meter line. At ANZ, there are a hell of alot more seats on the 50 meter line then at Parra.

ANZ would of definatly got a bigger crowd then at Parra and I wish it was at ANZ tonight and the Souths game at Parra for Hindmarsh.

I guess you missed the news about the rest of tickets being released on Wednesday.

I guess I did. That's the first I've heard of it. Did they hold some tickets back or was it a release of tickets that other groups (corporates, members etc.) hadn't taken up?

I wonder how many other potential fans also missed the memo.

Agree completely. People can laugh all they want but this is certainly the case. They wouldn't have got the 50K crowd telegraph propaganda figures but they would have been up around 30K.

Its a lot easier to get a good view at Homebush than at Parra stadium.

...and I will.

Parra stadium surrounds the ground the same way ANZ does, & if anything it'd be a better view due to the closer proximity.

You have to excuse me for finding it hard to believe there was 12 thousand people sitting at home thinking " Yeah, nah, we won't get a seat...."

lol...

Given a choice of tickets in the corner of a ground at playing level (cos thats where most of the gaps were) or staying home and watching on TV, I'd choose the latter even if I lived next door to the ground and had free entry.

I had free tickets to a Sharks game and I stood at ground level as it was a general admission ticket. (seating was extra and sold out any way)

After 20 minutes of a terrible view I left and drove home rather than stay and try to watch.

I would say there were quite a few thousand with the same attitude that I had. Plus the Dragon Army wasnt in as full effect last night as it would have been at Homebush. I would have thought that there would have been at least another 10,000 if the game had been at Homebush.

But it's kinda irrelevant now. Parra made the call and lost their bottle off the pitch. Reflected their attitude on it really ;-)

I think 18000 is a great start to the season.

Given the opening round of the season was played by last years minor premiers and last years runners up, 18k isn't a great start to the year. While i'm also of the opinion it would've got at least 25k if it were played at ANZ, but as much as guess what might've been it wasn't played there so as mentioned it's very much irellevant.

I can't find one good or valid reason why Parra stadium didn't sell out last night and IMO it was very disappointing that it didn't, even more so given the teams playing and it being the opening round of the season.

They held them back for any last minute members.

I'm not in favour of moving games to ANZ but what some people have said is right, if the game had been moved it would have attracted more then 18 000.

People tend to give up on attending games when they hear in the news that they're a near sell-out. They assume they won't get tickets. That's why most games hyped as sell outs at the smaller grounds usually fall 800 to 1500 fans short.

If the game is at a ground with a larger capacity you get thousands of extra people rocking up on the day because they know they'll have no trouble getting in.

I'd like to remind people that we did want to move the game, but that the Parramatta Stadium Trust blocked the move.

How did you get free tickets to the Sharks game.

Doubt that. And doubt that there would have been 50k their either.

BTW, where are all the "30k lockoout" people? Quiet aren't they!

Right game at the right venue, as was the Kogarah semi last year.
