.pdf.dot Files

Hi. I'm hoping the technologically-literate can help me out here.

I received a document, listed as a .pdf.dot file, using a template of Word 97-2004 (on Windows I assume) and I pretty much need to open it using my Mac. Obviously there's some compatibility issues there, although apparently it can be opened using Word for Mac. I just don't know how. Every time I try to open it, it comes up with a screen asking me to convert it and when I choose an option it invariably changes the font to wingdings. Go figure.

Can anyone help?

.pdf files are, well PDFs

.dot files are Word templates I think

I've never heard of a .pdf.dot file before, try renaming the file with a .doc, .txt or .pdf extension and see if your machine can open any of them.

Bulldog is right. The file extension doesn't exist. I think someone has just muffed the filename.

Usually files with a double extension are shifty. Sometimes you will see a file sent via email with an extension like .pdf.exe and these are usually someones pretty poor attempt at masking a nasty, like a virus or some other malware. Don't know if anyone could hide a nasty in a .dot file though? Whatever it is, scan it before you open it if you are unsure, just to be safe.

"Don't know if anyone could hide a nasty in a .dot file though?" - they can. Just delete it.
