In effect it's still just a $50k fine. It's just got a good behaviour bond on it that could cost him more if he stuffs up again.

t's 50k suspended so 75k up front

Still, Adam's point stands. To be fined the most ever of any Australian footballer is ridiculous. as a comparison, auvaa was fined 2k, yep 2k for self-admitted domestic violence. The courts fined him a further 3k.

The suspension is ridiculous as well and is the result of a trial by media if there ever was one.

To use an example close to home - even when every arsehole believed SKD beat up his ex, there was far less outrage about it than there was Pearce vigorously cuddling a dog.

Fair point, although Mike Baird only tried to intervene in one of those cases.

As you guys say, the media is what made this whole circus happen. The way the painted it you'd think Pearce's act with the dog was on the Michael Vick scale.

I agree it's all pretty over the top, but I also seriously wish our captain never got himself in a position to be exploited whilst he had two young players under his wing..

Of course. But that's an in-house issue and is why he's no longer captain. Certainly not worthy of a fine many times as large as any a player has received for actually criminal acts.

If I recall the second largest is probably Gallen, for calling Dave Smith a merkin on twitter  Really shows where the NRLs priorities lie.

Robbo pretty much said Pearce was "enjoying" the off season too much and had some obvious concerns about his head space. I honestly think he's been up to all sorts (and the club knew this) and this latest escapade was the beginning of the end. So, yes, I think the punishment dished out for a non existent crime is total total bullshit but reckon it was necessary to stop the rot. Nothing like a good dose of public humiliation eh?

Backing Jackson to play out of his skin to the point where Robbo will have a headache trying to fit Pearce into the side come his reinstatement.

Easts to win.

Some interesting stuff in today's Sydney Morning Herald on this. It tunrs out that the reports of the Roosters management and the NRL being at loggerheads over Pearce's punishment was broken by Pearce himself saying to our club that he deserves what he get. Source - http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...-nrl-with-one-phone-call-20160303-gn9q6i.html

Also, Andrew Webster's column today indicates it was Nick Politis who had the idea of the fine as he felt that a suspension is often treated like a holiday by a player. Additionally said article states Politis has told Pearce that one more stuff up like this and he will be gone for good from the club - http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...happens-again-youre-gone-20160303-gn9hgv.html
