I don't see how MP could be given a lengthly suspension and or sacked from the NRL as many have been wanting- No one is condoning his behaviour but was it illegal and or resulted in him being charged??- No-

This bringing the game into disrepute is a strange accusation/charge and i would say hard to make a case out of - who really brought the game into disrepute by paying for footage etc of the incident- News Limited and Channel 9 -Current holders of the TV broadcast rights.

So if a player flattens an opposition player with a stiff arm/one punch etc will they also be charged (along with the incident) with bringing the game into disrepute??- what about players laying down feigning injury to get a penalty etc- could this also be considered as bringing the game into disrepute.

Laws are also specific about filming people without permission i might add to close.

Looking forward to seeing him back on the field. Minor hiccup. He'll be better for the wake-up call - everyone needs one every now and then. Mostly not in such spectacular fashion though..

Obviously he can't play the early rounds because he hasn't been training but I would love the punishment to be a 50k fine and no suspension i.e. he will be back when fit. That would really put the finger up to the NRL and all the haters and the meltdown would be a pleasure to watch.

If he gets more than 4-6 weeks it's a joke.

There are people commenting who have basically invented a miles long rap sheet for him.

On some articles there have been comments from dickhead punters like "This isn't his first second or third incident with alcohol" (It literally is his second) and "Worse than Carney" (the same bloke who was told by a court to stay out of his home town).
A couple of minor incidents have snowballed into a career of crime.

Mate, isn't is a complete joke. The history revisionists are out in force on facebook.

Literally hundreds of people are saying it is his 5th, 6th chance and when challenged on it they have nothing. I have come across a few people that have convinced themselves the chick in the yellow dress, being dropped from origin by Laurie, the one game suspension and being banned from kings cross for 48 hours are 4 separate incidents...

The other go to is the fact the Jake Friend got arrested in 2009 and Mitch happened to be there..

I agree with all the above comments defending Pearce but I'm in no hurry to see him come back. I'm excited by our new young halves pairing and would like them to play (injuries allowing) the whole year together. Didn't think we'd make the GF this year anyway.

Sorry guys but the merkin embarrassed the club plus I'm sick of waiting for him to fulfil the promise we all thought was there. Maybe I had too high expectations of him but he's disappointed too often.

I was pretty happy with the Grand Final we won actually.. and I have little doubt we go at least one game better last year if he (and Jared) don't go down injured. He's not JT but he's done a pretty fine job of steering this team around, especially given his coaching includes such outstanding luminaries as Chris Anderson, Brad Fittler and Brian Smith.

True, Adam but I was hoping we got that good form more often/consistently. Bare in mind I'm a harsh merkin, though.

I think you are being a little harsh on him form wise. He was one of our best in a premiership year amongst a number of top performances and in 2014 he nearly got us to a GF on his own back.

Last year wasn't his greatest but far from his worst as well.

2014 he was on fire in the back end of the season but as a team we were hit and miss. Let's see how he looks when he comes back anyway - this year will probably decide his future with us given recent events.

8 weeks and 125k.... 125k!!!

50k of it is suspended but still, 75k is a lot.

We will be having a field day the next time someone gets in trouble because they won't cop this absurd punishment. The message being sent here is that being a dope on the piss is worse than being a woman basher...

To be fair, the standards are getting stricter every season and I suspect if something like what Greg Bird did were to happen now he would get hit pretty hard too.

I think the suspension seems like a good compromise. The suspended $75k won't be an issue as long as he keeps his nose clean, and he seems genuine in his desire to do that, so it's more just a further shot across the bow.

8 weeks is tough considering he already missed 2 big pre season events.

The NRL effectively got their 10 week wish.
