Steve wasn't on board with Zappa at that point - Vai's first album was 'Ship Arriving too Late To Save A Drowning Witch' (1982) while Joe's was made in 79'. Vinne was though :D

Ahhh yes, sorry, he began transcribing for Zappa in 1979 and touring in 1980 but you're right re: his first album.

Joshua Tree (u2)
Actung Baby (u2)
Unforgettable Fire (u2)

Best U2 album is "War" in my opinion. Lots of angry energy there and one of the all time classics.

A few others:

"Couldn't Stand the Weather" - Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
"Hotel California" - The Eagles
"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd (I prefer this and "Meddle" to DSOTM)
"Amused to Death" - Roger Waters
"Rumours" - Fleetwood Mac
"War of the Worlds" - Jeff Wayne (the original 1979 version)
"Live in New York City" - Bruce Springsteen (the best live album ever)
"Dire Straits" - Dire Straits (the original and best)
"Tattoo You" - Rolling Stones
"Tubular Bells" - Mike Oldfield
"Eye in the Sky" - Alan Parsons Project (although "Valid Path
"Let It Be" - The Beatles
"Rust Never Sleeps" - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
"Led Zeppelin IV" - Led Zeppelin
"Are You Experienced" - Jimi Hendrix (like the Devo re-make of the title track too)
"Diamond Dogs" - David Bowie (with "Station to Station" close behind)
"Blood on the Tracks" - Bob Dylan

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Anyone who doesn't think it's a perfect album must write for The Wire.

Ive seen Nevermind a few times, Id agree if you took out Something in the Way and Polly. Geez those songs do nothing for me at all.

Id have Bloody Sugar Sex Magik in there, and possibly Frogstomp as well.

Surprisingly Id have to agree with that too, I dont care for the Living End much at all anymore, but that was a very very good album with no dud tracks.

Lots of crap in this thread.

To me, a perfect album has no filler. I'm seeing lots of albums here that are mighty fine, but with the inevitable inclusion of filler.

Anything more than 10 songs and you're bound to start getting a few that aren't quite well thought out. Unfortunately, this rules out a lot of music from the 90s and early 2000s where it seemed as thought the general consensus was 'more is better'.

Anyway, onto my obligatory suggestions:

Led Zeppelin - IV
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads
Nirvana - Nevermind
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Natty Dread
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Exodus

We've all got our own opinion mate and I've gotta agree.. there is alot of crap... but each to their own. Like, personally... I only really rate one cd you listed...

Fair point, but let's take an example. Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory. A top album, I'll agree, but the inclusion of two 'nothing' 40 second filler tracks surely means that it can't be thought of as perfect.

gotta agree with these three

although I think it takes a certain sense of humour to really like all the tracks on murder ballads, its a real love-hate album.

A few of the albums I've put down are pretty long but I disagree that they contain filler tracks - in all of them I really believe that if you took any one track out the album would suffer.

Although on reflection I may take back my nomination of blood suger sex magic....I'd forgotten about nobody weird like me

* Hi Fi Way - You Am I
* Nevermind - Nirvana (I know...the irony...it is a good album with no dud tracks on it though...)
* Lost Souls - Doves
and now to add to the list:

* Funeral - Arcade Fire
* Fight For Your Mind - Ben Harper
* Asleep In The Back - Elbow
* XO - Elliott Smith
* Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
* Bring It On - Gomez
* 10-1 - Midnight Oil
* Surfer Rosa - Pixies
