Perry, Hunt, White to fight charges

MELBOURNE prop Brett White will front the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night to contest the severity of his striking charge for punching Cronulla's Ben Ross.

White was slapped with grade four striking for the incident, which occurred in retaliation to Ross' late hit on halfback Cooper Cronk in Sunday's 17-16 win to the Sharks.

The Storm prop will plead guilty to striking but will attempt to have a three-match ban reduced.

By contesting the severity of the charge White risks having the penalty increased by the judiciary.

His case will add to a busy night at the NRL judiciary where Ross' case will also be heard and Manly prop Josh Perry and Brisbane fullback Karmichael Hunt will attempt to avoid one week suspensions.

Perry today pleaded not guilty to a grade one striking charge for his alleged headbutt on Newcastle's Danny Wicks last Saturday.

Hunt will fight a grade three careless high tackle charge for his shoulder charge gone wrong on Sydney Rooster Braith Anasta last Friday.

Both Perry and Hunt will only receive one week bans if found guilty, meaning they are risking nothing by fighting the charge.

Earlier, North Queensland centre Ashley Graham has accepted a one-game ban for his grade four careless high tackle on Wests skipper Brett Hodgson.

Ross is expected to be handed a lengthy suspension after his hit on Cronk was referred straight to the judiciary yesterday.

It was an obvious headbutt. Sit down and have a rest for a week.

If you read it, even if he does plead guilty he will still recieve the one match ban so why not plead not guilty, it is worth a shot? but I still agree with part of him being a fatboy

Hopefully White gets an increase

He deserves to get an increase just for contesting the charge. He could've just pleaded guilty and got 3 weeks but now he's gonna get the full 4. f**ken stupid thing to do.

hope white is rubbed out for as long as possible. Perry is also a goose. Only payer with grounds to defend themselves in this situation is hunt and even he should get a week off IMO

ROFL @ Perry. Is he forgetting that fact that it was broadcast live around the world and that there is a tape of him clearly head butting Danny Wicks? It isnt like there is a lack of evidence. Perhaps because his record is poor it doesnt matter if he fights it or not. Pretty lame though that he doesnt just plead guilty.

Geoff Bellow will convince the Judiciary that it was merely an accident. He'll subsequently convince the four members of the partnership board to reverse the match result.

Four newly developed Delmege properties on Whale Beach will be mysteriously taken off the market the next day.

Hunt would not be fighting this charge if he risked a 2 week suspension. Someone jokingly suggested the Broncos will try to get Souths cardiologist to help. Remember Anasta getting king hit by Fa'logo?

Out of all the charges Perry has a techical case best suited to getting off.

White cops four-game ban

MELBOURNE prop Brett White will miss four matches for punching Cronulla's Ben Ross after unsuccessfully challenging the severity of his striking charge at the NRL judiciary tonight. White was charged with grade four striking for the incident and could have accepted a three-match ban with an early guilty plea.
He did plead guilty to the charge but the Storm opted to challenge the grading and in doing so risked having his suspension increased.
The judiciary panel of former players Darrell Williams, Royce Ayliffe and Bob Lindner decided White's charge should remain a grade four offence, meaning he will miss four games.
The Storm prop struck Ross in retaliation to the Cronulla forward's late hit on halfback Cooper Cronk in Sunday's 17-16 win by the Sharks at Olympic Park.
White's defensive team, led by barrister Geoff Bellew, argued Ross' actions had provoked the NSW prop and that he acted instinctively.
White himself told the judiciary he did "what he felt he had to do" to protect his halfback and warn other players further down the track not to repeat Ross' actions.
NRL prosecutor Peter Kite argued White had time to think about his actions and had acted like a "vigilante" in taking the law into his own hands.
The suspension means White will be eligible to return in the Storm's round seven clash against North Queensland.
Ross will face the judiciary over his striking charge later tonight while Brisbane's Karmichael Hunt and Manly's Josh Perry will attempt to avoid one match suspensions.
