In more good news WA cemented itself as the strongest RL state outside of the big two with another affiliated state championship. That's both jnr and snr titles we won this year. Well done everyone!

I agree

Well Done!

Just a question for the WA fans, when the Reds do get back into the NRL what players should they target? I imagine a mix of locals bringing some players back from SL would be the best bet. I'd also like to see a couple of pommies seeing as there is a large base of English ex-pats in Perth. Maybe even a South African like JP Du Plessis aswell. Then add one real star player and it'll be a good team to start off. Do people generally agree with this mix?

how about:
1. Billy Slater - Star Signing
2. Damien Blanch - SL Signing
3. JP Du Plessis - South African
4. Michael Shenton - English
5. Bryson Goodwin - WA Local
6. Sam Tomkins - English
7. Michael Witt - SL Recruit
8. Jon Green - WA Local
9. Heath Le'Estrange - SL Signing
10. Mark Bryant - SL Signing
11. Corey Patterson - WA Local
12. Greg Eastwood - SL Recruit
13. Dallas Johnson - SL Recruit

Ofcourse they'll go after some current NRL players aswell but to save offending other NRL fans by naming their club's players. Slater is just a hypothetical as the sort of "star" player they need to target, think Prince to Titans in 2007.

That would be a great line up! I'd throw in James Graham and Danny Buderus if we had the money and salary cap concession too, wrestling Jarrod Saffy back from RU would be good as he is a decent players and his family live in Perth.

My dream line up to attract Kiwi & pom fans and bring back the WA players would look like:

1. Slater (Marquee signing)
2. Goodwin (WA)
3. Ryan Cross (back from RU and is used to living in Perth if he isn't too old!)
4. Jennings (fan fave)
5. Jake Webster (back from UK, NZ)
6. Sam Tonkins (UK)
7. Dobson (back from SL)
8. Jarrod Saffy (back from RU)
9. Buderus or Berrigan (back from SL)
10. Graham (UK)
11. Patterson (UK)
12. Green (WA)
13. Johnson (back from SL)

14. Eastwood
15. Poore (WA born) (NZ back from SL)
16. Holdsworth (WA)
17. Iafeta Paleaaesina (NZ back from SL)

I like that team, a bit better thought out than mine which I would expect. Cross, Buderus and Graham are all good ideas, I was thinking Graham but I think if he's coming over he'll be over before 2013 and probably be locked into a long deal. There are plenty of young guns coming through over there so there would be a few to look at. Definatley like the idea of getting some players to lure the English fans. Hopefully South Africa will have a few juniors floating around in years to come so Perth can pick one aswell. Kiwis shouldn't be hard, then just a marquee signing and it's a good looking team.

Just hope the NRL agree that Perth needs to be in in 2013.

I believe the best solution is to cut Cronulla and introduce 2 of either CC, Perth and Central QLD.

But you are not very smart.
You cannot just go cutting teams they have to fall over or it will be souths all over again.
And i personally would not have cc as there is to much pressure on the corporate dollar at present.

Since I'm not very smart, I'll pretend I didn't understand your incisive post and reiterate the following..

Cut the Sharks..

Newcastle..??

Not likely pal..The NRL NEED Newcastle..

Top 4 in importance make no mistake..

Cut the Sharks..

Use math mate. Cut Cronulla + 2 teams, thats 17 which equals 8 games a week still. Not going to make anymore money then what we have now.

Cut the Sharks..

Add CC, Perth and Central QLD..

Aren't the NRL going to only add 1 team anyway or is it set in stone they are going to add 2 more to make a 18 team comp..??

Newcastle don't matter on the CC..And no one from the Newcastle area is likely to drop whoever they are supporting now to support CC..

Cut the Sharks..

If the NRL are smart (and that's a big IF) they will add 2 new teams. A 17 team comp doesn't add an extra game for the TV rights.

I would love to see Perth and Brisbane No. 2 added. As Gus Gould mentioned on Wed and Fri night, "Brisbane is the capital of the RL world" and should have a 2nd Suncorp based team. I believe Brisbane No.2 is a must safer option than Central QLD.

I love how Newcastle fans think they are somehow super important to the NRL, moreso than other clubs...

More importantly for us in the mean time is to get the NRL to fund either a NSW cup team or an under 20's team. We have an elite Jnr academy and a SG Ball team started this year. Those kids are going to need somewhere to continue to develop over the next 3 years. If not we will just lose them when they turn 17, either to RU out of RL all together or to the East Coast. Watching the SG Ball team ast year there was 3 or 4 players that looked very good prospects. With a "snr" team to move up to we will be in a much stronger position come 2013 onwards to be producing our ownn.

The original Reds model was very well thought out in terms of development in WA and if SL hadn't blown it up I can only imagine where RL would be in the State now.

That's because we are...undoubtedly.

Newcastle saved the ARL is the SL war. Should the Knights have gone over to SL, it would have been all over..

I said in a previous post that we were top 4 in importance..I change my mind. We are top 2 with Brisbane..

Cut the Sharks..
