Tasmania won’t be a black hole. It is the most AFL mad place in the world. Like Newcastle, they will have solid crowds and support. Plus the Tas government is chipping in something like $12m per year for a decade, so it won’t be the drain and embarrassment that GC and GWS are.
The Stadium is opposed by over 60% of Tasmanians, independent reports state it will return $44 for every $100 spent on it, the cost is blowing out and will cost nearly double the original estimate, the government is spiralling in debt and is about to be defeated on the floor and there is a very strong possibility now the club is dead as a result. The best bit is that the much vaunted roof makes the ground unsuitable for cricket who have made it clear they won’t play at the Stadium. The afl never wanted a side here in the first place, and it’s very likely they are about to get their wish. I said all of this a year ago but clowns like you told me I was wrong.

If he`s relying on the Greens I`d imagine one of their first demands would be a halt to the stadium.
That is exactly correct. This place is a total mess and we need to prioritise the basics and not invest in an extravagant unwanted stadium. It’s an absolute shit show here right now.

Hang on tassie govt is going to put in $375mill, its estimated to bring in $1billion in value over 20 years, yet its going to make a loss for the State? Eh?

Having seen first hand what amazing outcomes for a city a new stadium can have they'd be dumb to miss this opportunity.
It’s about to kill a government mate and is hugely unpopular here.

Cook got an easy ride compared to the Tassie premier by looks of it lol

ps how did a thread about Perth Bears entry into NRL end up being about the Tasmanian Devils in AFL?

Cook and the NRL worked together to find some form of middle ground. It did take a while with back and forth negotiations, but eventually both parties got a deal done.

Meanwhile in Tassie, AFL's approach is my way or the highway. No new stadium, no team. The AFL made it hard for Tassie to get a team. The original price was $715 million. Now it has ballooned to $945 million. For just seven home games. Additionally the stadium at Launceston is getting a $130 million upgrade. So all up close to $1.1 billion.

In a way, you don't blame the ALP for putting forward a no confidence motion. Politically they have been in opposition since 2014, and they are smelling blood. If the AFL were more accommodating such as having no roof or upgrade Bellerive, then the current Tasmanian Premier may not be at risk of losing his job.

Bit of a concern that the fears of East coasters trying to set up and run a Perth team could come back to bite may already be eventuating. It does seem that the choice for CEO isnt going to make start up any easier. Hopefully he's a wonderkid at building a sports business and the noses he's put out of place doesnt scupper things!

Next up is brand, board, etc. Hopefully the ARLC get that right!

Whose nose has he put out of joint that we know so for ? CEO’s of companies that wouldn’t invest in the game regardless of who has the role…most of them in that article don’t even mention him …just that they have no interest in RL

Bet he doesn’t last long in that role

You should listen to what your mate Chammas said in that pod and not Weidler …it wouldn’t matter if they had Mother Theresa in the role … there is going to be a long list of people coming after them ( The NRL and the Bears ) at worst or giving them the brush at best

The dude has been handpicked by your hero PVL …he must have something going for him.

Its amazing when you hear Mal talk about rugby league, he clearly has no f**king idea at all.
I can only imagine he has been given the role because although not strictly an Indigenous Australian he can appeal to that demographic, as well of course being a Rugby League legend.

Given the history of poor race relations with the fumbles, only one Indigenous player drafted last year, and not so long ago a former weagles coach saying Indigenous players weren`t worth the trouble, the NRL might see installing Mal as a way to have an immediate impact in that area.

I’m not sure of the Indigenous aspect …Mal is your Kevin Shandy GWS “face of the game “ type over there who has at least some profile and can talk in front of a camera …he is more there for PR I suspect to get them over the initial years ..they need a couple of strong assistant coaches to do the leg work preparing the team each week, along with some Frank Ponissi Football Manager type to put the squad together …this will be harder to find than a Head Coach and a CEO

Being competitive from the start is going to be the No 1 priority …it’s made more difficult when they seemingly have no local juniors that they can call on to fill out the bottom 10 spots in the squad like the Dolphins did when they started up.. they will all need to be imported from over East …
