Pet hates in gyms

ME SO HORNBY!

This thread talks about a lot of hates.

But you know what I love? Going into the gym on Boxing Day and being the only one there for the entire time. I savoured it because I know what it will be like when all the resolutionists start after new years.

Mate you should have seen my gym at 0530 on Xmas day...like a scene out of The Omega Man.

But Sunday mornings can be like that anyhow.

People who hog 2-3 machines at once like come on!

Couldn't Agree more.

There should be a separate Gym for meat heads only, and they should be barred from using community gyms;

just think; a separate set of weights machines targeting that certain muscle area that they've envisaged they'll train over the course of 1 hour.

Wall to wall mirrors so that they can look at themselves pumping, get hard-on's in the process and jerk themselves off at how incredibly sexy they appear to be.

And let's not forget; continuous whey protein dispensers at every weights station.

That is the most insecure post I have ever read on this forum btw. lmao

Anyways, typical new years resolution people like clockwork are getting a touch annoying. One guy wanted to use the powercage but instead of asking me like a human if he could work in with me he just stood about one cm from the entry to the cage standing with his arms crossed sighing. Bro I am not going to give up the cage to someone standing there like a passive aggressive lug. I made sure I did a few extra sets.

 I was half-joking Pete!

But in all seriousness if you are going to blatantly abuse gym equipment to the extent where you are going to disrupt another gym member's workout. I.e. Hogging two pieces of equipment at once and "reserving" another piece of equipment by putting your towel on the seat of it and then going off and having a five min + yak with your mate on the other side of the gym, you need to f*ck off and buy your own personal gym.

I can't make it any simpler pal.

And FFS what is it with the whinging about new years resolutionists?

I know with them joining it makes the gym busier but I have to train with them as well and it doesn't put me out. Good on them for having a go I say, especially if they stick with it.

In any case it's a community gym FFS! where do you expect them to train?
If you don't like it, you're quite welcome to join something a bit more exclusive and meat head orientated like Gold's.

All public gyms are community gyms mate. Do you understand what the word means.

I do care about people blatantly breaking gym etiquette. Like the guy in my example was free to ask to cut in if he wanted but squatting is hard work at the best of times. A dude being a huge distraction acting like a passive aggressive chump is pretty annoying on my ability to concentrate on form.

I just ask a dude if he's using the equipment if he's off having a yak that 99/100 either gets them to complete their sets or give up the equipment. It is very annoying I agree to have to do this in a public gym. I hate people doing it myself (i think I've actually mentioned it in this thread) but at my gym it's not really the biggest guys doing it. Tends to be fairly new young guys.

Granted. But Gyms like Gold's are marketed mostly for the body building fraternity and are less likely to have your "new years resolutionists" taking out membership there. (Even though they are free to do so if they wish)

Ergo if you don't like training with them, Gold's might be a better option than your usual run of the mill suburban fitness first, fit n' fast, jets or anytime fitness.

I used to train at a typical muscle-head orientated gym in Meadowbank when we were living in Rhodes. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Even in the weekday evenings after 5:30pm.

Again though it's the blatant breaking of gym etiquette that annoys me not the people. I'm not in a rush it's no big deal if people want to get fit.

I'm a bit lucky in that I set my own hours of work, so when I would head down to the gym it was usually around 10-11am and not very busy.

Still, there was one guy that would be there occasionally who felt the need to make as much noise as possible when lifting as if to let everyone know he was lifting heavy.

f**king douche. So yeah, that's got to be my No.1 pet hate - groaning so loud when you lift that people can hear you 5km away.

Sometimes I grunt when lifting its hard innit. I try not to bellow though. Always be mindful of other users.

I also dislike people breaking gym etiquette, but I hate it even more when people break gym rules when it's posted on the wall in plain English, crystal clear for everyone to see.

From my observation, it's also not the gym newbies or "new years resolutionists" who break those rules.

The ones that annoy me is the bellow like a bear, literally drop the weights hard on the ground and then stamp around the gym mugging like they have just broke a powerlifting world record.

For the last few months I have been trying to drop some bodyfat so I have lowered the amount of weight I am doing. As I don't have to concentrate quite so much I have been sneakily watching other gym goers. Its interesting how many guys put their ego before their form with weight.

Speaking of gym etiquette, I have used at least 10 gyms since I started training in 2006. By far the worst I have ever used is Anytime Fitness at Hyde Park in Sydney. I use it on weekdays because it's right near my work so I train before I go to the office.

It is the messiest gym I have ever used. Weights left on just about every machine, weights lying on the floor. For someone like me who only has about 45 mins to train in the morning I spend half my time looking for plates on other machines.

Worst part is the personal trainers who work there are some of the worst offenders. I'm so bloody close to telling them off the next time they leave 60kgs on a bar while training a client.

And what does the manager do? Every time I'm there he is just playing on his iPhone in his office. I'm thinking of emailing Anytime's "customer experience" email and telling them about this gym. It's the only franchise I've been to where I've had this type of experience.

Do you know what gets my goat. When people leave like a million kilos on the 45 leg press. Thats useful for people just beginning to work out or ladies or whatever having to rack a heap of weight off a machine because people are too f**king lazy to do it themselves. I am also sure I have complained about that in this thread because it really annoys me but you reminded me :p
