When vlandys leaves the game we will have at least 20 teams maybe 24

we will have 500 million in assets. And will turn over 1 billion

and will be the dominant football code in the South Pacific

league will be untouchable
Thanks Nostradamus, any tips on next weeks lotto numbers?

The thing about Vegas is it will either pay off big time or it wont, but you cant die wondering. Vlandys and the ARLC are on an aggressive push the likes of which the Australian sport hasnt seen - probably ever. Make money first, moralise about it later.

Over the next 5-10 years It will probably kill off whats left of Union as a professional force, especially if it takes over the pacific islands - and thats as much on Union neglecting that area for so long - its been a hot bed of talent for decades and everyone has known it.

I mean Tonga are on a three test tour of the UK now, thats big news for international league. First tier 2 nation tour over there ever i think. All three matches going live on BBC One too. (and starting this weekend)

Which goes with the PNG being team 18 news floating around.

Again though if it has a solid business case and it aligns with the Leagues goal then no reason not to go for it, going with this aggressive mindset that is.

Its mainly an idea to flood the player pool with PNG or Pasifika players, all at the cost of the govt, if the 1st grade side ever goes belly up for any reason the pathways are built and can stay on feeding other current NRL sides.. this why they want to fast track it, it means that expansion can happen quicker with an average of 2 teams per broadcaster pay cycle, thus an extra game to sell, so really it doesn't matter who fits the bill, east tigers, bears, perth, any area will do as long as these Pasifika pathways are built first

Cairns is not getting upgrades of anything like NRL standard facilities. It's some minor funding from the local Council for lighting.

How do you make a solid business case when your main source of income is dependant on a politicians whim.

This is nothing to do with the Pacific Islands, it's PNG.

It's a decade or more before PNG is producing NRL standard players in large numbers (if ever).

It's also f**king weird that NRL fans see PNG in this weird colonial way, as in they can just raid PNG for there own clubs benefit down the track.

My fear with PNG getting a licence will be when a future Federal Government decides to pull its funding of the club. I mean in all seriousness, do we think that politicians of all shades will continue this funding for ever? Hank Head alone will eventually start up saying why is rl a special case for funding a professional sporting club, and others will eventually take up those cudgels too, or other sports will come cap in hand demanding similar funding.

For a PNG team to be successful will require a steady income stream besides funds from the Australian Government and the NRL Annual Grant.

The mining sector is the key I'd say

That is the concern but the business case is key for ongoing success

So Barlow park is good enough to host International Olympic events but not regular NRL games?

So "mining companies" none of which have pledged any support as yet, are somehow going to sponsor the team to the tune of tens of millions of dollars?

I know you like to be negative but none of us here have seen the Business cases for all

ExxonMobil sponsors the local comp
There are mining companies that sponsor the Hunters, Why would they not continue to do so?
