Nrl way is better

let clubs do bulk of the development vs afl approach of throwing away so much money

Gus used to talk about how there was an overlap between clubs and nrl and in other areas no do at all

As I said with the touch/oztag inclusion.

There is a place for school visits and a place to develop 14 year olds into NRL players

V Landys is all over every level of imporving the game from grass roots to international footy.

He is like Pride of Jenni in the Queen Elizabeth infront of the rest.

It's hard for Sydney siders to grasp this concept, BUT not every RL playing area in the country is covered by an NRL club.

Correct but not every area needs the same.

For example Wyong is Central Coast, So no NRL coverage.

Also have free rego for kids, So it isn't as simple as lets do $x of money. It needs to be targetted.

No reason the QCup teams can't run their own DO, It does cover the vast majority of the RL world.

A direct funding setup would cover the rest too, I'd look to other sports for the best way

where are you getting that Wyongs rego is free?
from their facebook page

Wyong Junior Roos
Season 2024 registrations for Wyong Roos Juniors will open 1 December 2023.
The Club will field teams in age groups Under 6 - Under 17.
The teams will be mixed gender up to and including Under 12, male tackle Under 13 – Under 17 and female tackle in Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups and female Blues Tag in Under 14 and Under 16 age groups.
Registration fees are as follows,
Mini (Under 6 - Under 9) $180.00
Mod and International (Under 10 - Under 17) $200.00
Female Blues Tag $180.00

Following govt changes to subsidies voucher scheme the Roos LC has reduced regos by $100. Not sure if prices above are pre or post that decision. either way its not free.

Also brings me back to my point re LC's. They are spending $300k subsidizing. They took $60mill from pokies and other areas and made $9mill profit., paid zero tax on the profit. Why hasn't it always been fully funded by this cash machine of thats what they supposedly exist for?

QCup teams are run on the smell of an oily rag. Every funding plan needs to be targeted, that's hardly some great V'landys vision. And the insinuation is that it's not now??

Why are you so passionate about defending the ARLC defending junior footy?

Be grateful that you live in one of the few places in Australia where kids sport is free. Most families pay around 400 per kid per sport per year in rego fees.

Because it comes to a local approach.

Cowboys, Cutters, Blackhawks and Pride can do a much better job of directing resources in North QLd than someone based in the capital cities.

As for the cost. That is every sport but govt have subsidy vouchers to limit the cost. Even QLD have a $150 from the govt.

So I am not sure any sport can cover every kid but they can ensure the competitions, Clubs are funded as cricket does.

That is why a local targetted system works better

That is full price.

Take the $100 from Wyong Leagues
Then the govt voucher on top of that and you get the cost.

So again, If the cost is minimal why do NRL need to fund those kids?

So they money can be used elsewhere, I am not saying NRL shouldn't spend anything but they can send the resources elsewhere and you do more with the limited resources.

How you get this done is the question that needs to be sorted

Capitalism will always beat communism.

As long as Governments don't step in and prop up the bottom feeders.

Thats why the NRL are winning the code war in Australia.

so its not free after all. Ok that fact check done.

The only reason the LC has now stepped in to reduce costs is apparently because the govt has changed its voucher scheme and made it means tested.
Question remains
1. why doesnt NRL cover jnr rego fees, it can afford it.
2. Why dont all LC's which makes sht load of money on the back of supposedly existing for local RL cover full jnr rego fees
3. Would free rego for kids increase participation? Worth a 3 year trial Id have thought.

1. What sport covers every single rego? Lets round the juniors to 100k. At $200 a registration that is $20m a year before you even start giving the state bodies money to run their comps.

2. most do, Not all areas particularly the bush clubs have no Leagues clubs.

3. Yes but you'd also get kids signing to multiple sports which doesn't help the player numbers long term

1. what sport is making $50mill surpluses each year?
2. It would seem most don't. Only one I've found so far that covers full fee is Canterbury.
3. if you dont try you'll never know. They could run a pilot in an area and see if it made a difference. Free rego and improved registration marketing and increased DO school attendance in that region. Do it for 2 years and see if it increases numbers. Its called research!
