I`d love to see them both go to Perth and help get that club off to a flyer, certainly provide them both with a challenge if that`s what they are after.

That's a nice thought.

I just don't think they'd ever coach or play against Penrith again. I do believe that England for a short trip is possible for Nathan and Ivan would look at rep coaching which he hasn't done yet really.

.

When pvl said they wanted to make the green and gold jumper the pinnacle of the sport again I shed a little tear.

.

So you should.

He is a good operator. He hasn't given two shits about international football but when it's appropriate he will put it on his radar. I'm keen for that next Kangaroos tour.

The Kangaroos need to f**k the Wallabies right off. Only room for one animal and it's ours.

Oh, and he couldn't hide his contempt to the "afl will take over nsw" statement.

Then made a brief statement about the afl having a TV audience of 23k one week in Sydney while the nrl got 1 million viewers.

To be fair, although the international game currently doesn't have the buzz of 2017, it is in fairly good health. Since we came out of COVID we've had:

- a world cup in 2022
- a Pacific Championship in 2023 involving Aus, NZ, Samoa, Fiji, PNG & Cook Islands and Tonga touring England
- a Pacific Championship in 2024 involving Aus, NZ, Tonga, Fiji, PNG & Cook Islands and Samoa touring England

There are three specific things there that we would have killed for even 10 years ago

1. We are getting meaningful tournaments / tours every year featuring our 8 top nations
2. The Pacific Island nations and PNG are getting meaningful and multiple tests every year and their sides are improving because of it
3. We now have international action in both hemespheres post season, which is genuine growth, we've never had the depth of quality of teams before to pull that off.

All of that is still leaving out France and Lebanon that are currently decent enough sides also.

The international game is looking healthy and the current Samoa squad could really spark a 2017 Tonga style explosion in the popularity of it.

All fair points.

I actually agree with the direction. Focus on what we are doing here first. He has made a lot of snap decisions hit or miss with many of them hits.

If we get the ball rolling internationally it will be pretty special. RU is deadset keeling over and looks ready to take it like a stuffed pig. Fire that sport into the sun it's a waste of everyone's time.

PVL and Abdo did a 40 min interview on 100% footy covering a wide range of topics, they talk about the AFL for 15 seconds and this is the click bait headline the smh run with
What were the highlights (expansion Vegas ? Anything about buying super league or buying more assets )

Expansion, refs, rules, AFL, day to day running the NRL, Vegas, Internationals, season lenghth, media focussing on negative stories.

It's worth watching on 9 Now

Gus had some interesting comments after the interview, rekons the current admin are the first we've had that are setting up the games future. Gus says he talks to PVL regularly ( he has a meeting with him today ) and League is on the doorstep of "greatness" , can take over the southern hemisphere as the no.1 sport.

They had a tiff a while back

Seems they are serious at reducing the season length and maybe an international mid season window with origin

The other big issue they need to address is proper incentives for clubs who develop juniors

Behind a paywall but ChatGPT will summarise paywalled articles if you paste the link for it:

The article discusses a funding dispute between the NRL and the QRL over the expansion of Queensland teams in the Hostplus Cup. The QRL planned to introduce reserve-grade teams from the Cowboys and Titans, requesting $4.2 million for funding. However, NRL CEO Andrew Abdo rejected the request, citing a lack of time to assess the proposal and emphasizing a more national development strategy. This led to a legal standoff, but it appears both sides aim to find a long-term solution for expansion.
