Possibly but that even brings other issues, A player gets KO in an Origin game they miss the next one. Even general wear and tear would make the quality drop if Origin sides can't fully train.
So there are other challenges
Better than it is now where most back up for games a few days after origin.

Risk of injury playing club games during origin also lessens origin games

but you will have ten games a round not the current 8. So at moment there are 192 games a season. ten games a round over 22 weeks = 220 games in total. So even with less rounds we are offering 10% more content.

Yes but you have more than 10% extra costs. NRLW salary cap for example will rise but that isn't factored in the club grants.

Broadcast revenue and gate revenue vs shorter more intense season

19 rounds would be a huge reduction and won’t get the tv dollars they need
If it’s 20 teams that would make an extra 2 games per round than at the moment, meaning an extra 38 games up until round 19. (It's actually an extra 50 games at this point, rnd 19, because of all the byes and split rounds)
10 games per round equals 190 games per season. At the moment there are about 203 games per season*. Not a huge difference, and hopefully it Opens the window for more International games to be played mid season to cover extra tv time. Less byes too, i suppose they’d still keep some for SOO to split the rounds up.

*I’m not sure if my math is correct, but it’s at least approximate

Have people read the article?

According to Darth V'landys rugby league is going to turn PNG into a 'major society' and 'really great neighbour for Australia' within 10 to 20 years. Bullshit.

And don't even get me started on how many streaming subscriptions this team will bring in: '5 million more subscribers'. Then he compares it to cricket in India.

There's a fine line between positivity and delusion and he's crossing it when it comes to PNG.

Lots to digest.

Would we (or the clubs) be happy with five fewer NRL games for each club? There would be a loss in revenue from broadcasters - how would that be made up? Surely it is a good thing for games like Broncos v Dolphins to happen twice each season? Maybe 19 games plus Magic Round?

5m PNG subscribers from an 18m population when there are currently only 1.8m from 26m Australians? He surely knows those figure don’t add up, so I don’t know why he keeps throwing this stuff in the mix.

Still, bravo for thinking about the future - something most sports administrators and politicians rarely do. Change is hard but usually necessary.

You def need to add an extra round for rivalries on top of the 19 games, possibly even a playoff round for 8th spot (8th to 11th) and a rest weekend for the top 7 finishers.

I would bring back the Nines as an additional round of content. You could then put Nines and Magic Round up for tender each year into expansion states (WA, VIC, SA and NZ) to grow the game.

Top 9 finals, for a 20 team comp, minor premiers get first week off, then the rest go at it as of it were the existing top 8, but the bottom 3 end up out the door first week. (Instead of bottom2).. really give the minor premiers a leg up

the remaining 5% gap between cost of club grant and tv content (not that tv value is based purely on content amount) can be made up through other NRL events such as a full weekend of nines, mid season rep weekends adding further games, longer end of season rep series and a longer finals.
Costs will be up 15%, content up around 20-25%.

Between 5 million in PNG and 1% of the American market NRL is going to be at a global sport level.
He made up figures about the tax rate, he made up figures about earnings in HK. He threw in a ridiculous analogy with cricket in India. Seriously he is the Donald Trump of the sports world lol

I think the Donald comparison is more fitting for your racist mates who run the AFL and lie for a living.

Everyone can have a go at PVL but here are the facts that matter.

NRL is in the best financial and commercial position that the game has ever been.

The ratings and crowds are the best they have ever been.

Participation both in junior clubs, school comps, amateur league and associated leagues like touch are the highest they’ve ever been.

Individual NRL clubs are all finally becoming or already have become cash positive and profitable .

The game is expanding. Expansion = growth. Growth = more commercial and corporate opportunities. More commercial and corporate opportunities = more money coming in and more markets to tap into.

The game is the most marketable that’s it’s ever been. It’s got the most female viewers and participation that’s it’s ever had which goes hand in hand with junior numbers increasing.

NSWRL and QRL are the strongest they’ve ever been. The quality of those competitions is the best that’s it’s ever been. Soon the financials are about to get a massive boost with recent negotiations for further funding coming imminently. Those comps are also finally stable with club numbers and which clubs make up those numbers.

NZRL is flying with junior numbers, participation, active clubs and Warriors are commercially kicking huge goals.

Most of this under the watch of PVL. If you think your individual club isn’t performing maybe look inward and redirect your criticism at your clubs management. RL supporters are quick to forget the Gallop and Smith years.

So all the staff at Clubs are going to go a month without pay while the comp pauses for rep weekends?

For the 9's and rep games to be valuable enough to get in some money. You need the rep guys playing.

If you cut down NRL rounds to say 22. You are going to have the rep guys still playing Origin. Potentially the 9's.

Having a gap mid season means they are still having the same pre-season.

Need to not start it so early is the key. With Vegas the comp went for 28 weeks. Plus finals.

You do 22 NRL rounds.

week off before Origin
Origin for 3 straight weeks
Have another weekend off so guys can rest for club.

Still has the season go for 27 weeks. Assuming Vegas is still going then. 28 weeks

So all you have done is take games away from clubs and gave a small group of players a paid holiday in the middle of the year. Yet the length the players are training doesn't change

To have a mid-season "pause" for rep games would mean drastically reducing TV content for NRL matches. Content is king, and many networks, Fox especially, need content to put on its channels. They won't want to reduce the number of games they get for a 2-4 week period. I dare say neither will any of our FTA broadcasters either.

That's a half truth.

If Gus leaves then Penrith absolutely do not improve under Griffin. Teams led by Hook were always a total rabble, we have three clubs to prove it.

He isn't above criticism but he is hardly bad for Canterbury. He is exactly what they need for another few years at least. Again the story of Canterbury is not about their first grade side it's about what is happening underneath it.
Been saying the same about the NSW Origin team for a few years now...

There are 204 games currently.

And new teams in Perth, PNG and NZ will be the three most expensive teams in the comp.

They will keep the SOO period exactly as they do now, split rounds with byes, and as there will be more teams there will be more games on during this time.
They could have a pause for one round and play a heap of both men’s and women’s International games over 3-4 days
