Masters article is all over the place with his figures but two key things he is right about are the cash difference is massive and Vlandys changed the way nrl accounts are reported to hide the cash value of the nrl deal.
the fact people on here still defend Vlandys shows exactly why this great game will go nowhere.

When the players start seeing the top tier of AFL players getting $2+ million a year they will very much care.

Then they will make changes

As it stands the next 2 years on TV money only the 2 sports are similar

After that 3 years at this stage Is the $100m difference, the exact difference will be known as the books get opened

As long as the stakeholders know is all that matters

No they aren’t, stop lying. Nrl will be $370mill cash, afl will be over $400mill cash. That’s not similar!
The difference is $180mill cash a year from 25. Vlandys has fcked us, stop hiding from it.

If you want to exert power and control employ weak leaders, I’m sure uncle nick is very happy with the current commision and chairman.

All clubs care about is themselves, The moment they have cause PVL is on his ass. The same applies for the other commissionere

Exactly, if you’ve got someone who you can control and who makes bad decisions for the game but good for your club you’re not going to be getting rid.
Vlandys is safe, he’s protected by media, he’s controlled by clubs, sadly it means the game is screwed.

AFL with the Telstra money taken out

$426m with contra

NRL
Ch 9 $115m cash
Sky NZ $32m with contra
Foxtel $300m with contra

The unknown is the contra part. Nor where the $20m a year Fox paid for Dolphins sit

And TBH if clubs and players are happy that is all that matters

Why would Politis be happy with V’landys negotiating a poorer TV deal? I also remember Politis failing in his request to get the comp restarted when the pandemic started and have everyone starting on zero again.

Also, weren’t Pappas, Morris and Politis, who are on the commission’s investment committee, left blind-sided when the NRL bought Gambaro’s hotel?

There’s no controlling a weak leader here. He’s out of control.

strike 4 the head high fiasco and six again joke

so long,farewell, aif wiedersen, goodbye……….

watch him come out with some glib remark about afl whilst the morons on the sidelines continue to cheer.
Congratulations you early got through an entire post without mentioning your beloved AFL. Maybe next time.

1 - Why does what another code is getting in 3 years matter when rating how the ARLC is going?

New team coming in
Just came off a great year crowd wise
A professional Womens comp
Salary Cap has grown 60% in 10 years
Had enough spare cash to make a non Football related investment

You don't think any of that is good?

If you think the clubs have too much power, Why would you give them more by letting them have a say in the rules that allows them to cheat

So that part isn't worth responding too

Our crowds are pathetic and haven’t moved or gained significantly. If you are happy with the crowds then I’m sorry that you have so little ambition.

Why are you mentioning the salary cap? If you want to praise that then you are praising the administrators previous. Also, is that more due to the fact that they have taken money from other areas more than acquired growth - if so that is just an accounting trick and not sustainable.

Are you referring to the pub? Fair enough that’s not terrible but come back to me when we are buying stadiums or something really significant.

Regards to the last point, you have completely missed it. Think of it this way. Say you work in an office and you work via a particular IT System. Would you be happy if your boss just dropped the new system on you without any training or prior warning? Do you think you would be as productive as you were previously?

Also if you think the commission are unable to deal with any pushback during a consultative phase with the players, then that just shows how they aren’t suited to their roles.

So Warriors being in Australia and it raining every week had nothing to do with crowds?

The cap increasing shows growth? Isn't that what the sport should be doing? You can argue there could be more growth but that is just speculation

Where did I say they weren't capable?
You complained the clubs and players have too much power. Yet should have more deciding how the game should be played?

You are talking about the current year? Besides the Warriors, there hasn’t been that much of an excuse. People have been cooped up inside and should be wanting to go out.

As I said beforehand, crowds have always been a concern and have trailed fumbleball significantly for time immemorial and we haven’t done enough to remedy that. That’s definitely not all about V’Landys but it is not liked he has solved the conundrum either.

The growth has been good sure but that salary cap increase is terribly inflated. The game hasn’t grown that much in the last ten years so they are taking that growth money and putting all towards players. Now personally I don’t think that is sustainable - we need to actually spend money on grassroots, development, marketing, ways to actually promote club growth.

You inferred it by suggesting that clubs would essentially dictate how it played out. Now, once again no other industry would essentially change something without consulting other stakeholders first. Why for example would it have been too hard to do it after the end of last season or better yet give clubs 12/24 months to prepare so that they can change and adapt their squads to reflect the new style of play? Why couldn’t you test it in match situations first to see how teams or players reacted and thus work out the positives/negatives before implementing the rule change? Why did we even need the rule change when you could have just enforced the current rules better- wouldn’t that have been the easiest thing to do? There were plenty of options available but he just chose the most pig headed and arrogant way of doing it.

Give it a rest with your false figures, foxtel are not paying $300mill or anything like it. The total nrl deal is $402million. Of which around $30mill is contra,

As long as the clubs get their slice of the pie they won’t care. Look at how grant had to up the club payment to survive. I can almost guarantee Vlandys has promised them the club grant to increase to $14-$15mill from next year To keep them sweet. The. The laughable joke of the subjrabn stadium strategy keeping sydney clubs sweet plus his jibes at Melbourne and afl which will ale the luddites happy. He may a really sht tv contract negotiator (or on fox’s pocket) but he can play the game, I’ll give him that.

let’s remember he has brought the dolphins in with zero extra cash payment from Australian tv so they already have a $13mill plus deficit with that one. Chuck in another $18mill a year for clubs and suddenly that $30mill tv increase ffrom sky nz is looking very much gone.
