Super Rugby play it's side out of Mt Smart. That would be my preference

NZ based team. Odd game in the islands and PNG. Cairns is mentioned and could work but would need a larger ground
Not a bad idea to base in NZ, only problem is they’d have to play minimum of 1 game in the islands each year, 2-3 at PNG and spred the rest around NZ. They’d be nomads

With the idea in question they would be nomads anyway. At least if they are in NZ they can target a potential audience.

You mean clubs that were actually in the comp and relocated 100% to the new city. Swans and Lions don’t go back to south Melbourne or Fitzroy and play two games a year at some old dump of a stadium so a few thousand geriatrics can swoon about the olden days.

I went to Nth Sydney oval to watch Australia v Pakistan earlier this year. It’s not fit for NRL games. While the stands and trees look nice, the facilities and amenities are non existent. It couldn’t hold modern games of NRL. It’s a shit hole. And its a pain in the ass to get to public transport wise and has no parking. Similar to Belmore and Leichardt. It’s just old and substandard compared to Accor, Allianz and Comm Bank stadium. It’s also not worth spending 100s of millions to fix it up for two games a year.

The Bears brand is dead, it has holds no value on the national stage anymore. It means Sweet FA to anyone else around the country cause you’ve had 25 years without a presence in the National comp.

Bringing back the name and brand Perth/Western Reds makes more sense in WA than the bears. At least people in WA
will recognise it.

Now Canterbury, Cronulla, St George or West Tigers - if they wanna relocate full time to Perth or Adelaide, fantastic go for it. The teams are actually in the comp and their national brand and recognition holds value which means those cities would value the teams.

And now, as I just called for two Sydney clubs to voluntarily relocate for the good of growing the game and getting bigger media rights deals - I’ll just sit back and wait for idiotic meltdowns and abuse from this forums Neanderthals in 3…. 2 …. 1…..
Keep posting. Your misery makes me happy. Triggered much sis?

Gold Coast wasn't methodical. Helluva fight from North Melbourne when they tried to boot them up there.
Yes it was.

They had a plan to relocate North Melbourne to Gold Coast. They offered them $100m over ten years to move. Their preference was for relocation of smaller Melbourne club. A deal North were stupid not to take.
When North dug in and refused to move, the AFL ruled out plan A and methodically went with plan B - start up new club on GC and 2 years later GWS. Then they negotiated with QLD Government for a new Carrara stadium etc. All in a very methodical way really.

The only major negative on the Suns was the training facilities (weights rooms etc). They were sub standard. That’s been rectified since Commonwealth games. GWS start up was done even better than Suns - so lessons learned and applied quickly to the 18th club, in dare I say it - a methodical way.

They had two plans of action. Went with plan B and secured all the major investment and infrastructure they needed for the clubs to be established and boost media rights value.

And that methodical style continues on with team 19. They ain’t going to Hobart without a stadium deal locked away etc. They’ve had consulting reports about establishing the team, whether it’s viable etc. They forced the Tasmanian government to do the hard yards on their bid to the point they released a Parliamentary select committee report on the case for a Tasmanian team. They’ve put it on federal government to fund the stadium.

The other thing is they have time on their side. They don’t need to rush expansion, as they got to 18 teams first and have negotiated a gap of $500m from their rival code. They have ten years to implement the next two clubs.

They’ve been planning for 20 teams for ages though. They just don’t bother doing DT puff pieces and hollow announcements like it’s ground breaking news like NRL do.

As with the media rights deal, AFL keep quiet and line everything up in the background before making official announcements etc. Its all quite methodical 😀

Yo

you know when he’s using the alt he’s upset
The alt? Haha you idiots have like 3 IQ points between you. I’ve no other accounts on here.

This is a thread to discuss and/or critique PVLs leadership of NRL. As soon as anyone critically examines anything PVL puts on the table his dick jockeys on here lose their shit and go all in on the tin foil hat thinking there’s this conspiracy of one person with multiple accounts.

It’s quite funny really, there’s heaps of people posting critical things about PVL and News Ltd having to much influence on reddit and social media. Yet here, on LU it seems the knuckle dragging brigade only want their little PVL loving echo chamber.

You guys really do have no gag reflex though, and I’m sure PVL loves that about you

Apparently US college football players will launch the game in America and save the nrl. this guy is a genius for sure.
It’s hard to know when he’s being serious and when he’s taking the pss and getting news ltd to print dumb stories for giggles?

“There’s a market in America for NFL players to come here,” V’landys said.
“The model is basketball. Anyone who doesn’t make basketball in America comes to Australia. Then there’s the pathway then between the two countries.
