I actually don’t mind the idea of playing them on Monday nights. Have them 2 weeks apart so the Origin period is shorter, Make Origin 2 part of a Representative weekend and give each team either a bye on the weekend of Origin 1 or Origin 3. At most clubs would only have one game without their Origin stars. Play Women’s Origin the Thursday before the Men’s Origin. This would see less disruption to the NRL Competition
Not a bad solution

Buzz Rothfield revealed on Triple M’s Saturday Scrum that there’s growing support for the 7th-10th placed teams to have a playoff weekend the week before the finals begin.

“Wildcard weekend, it’s getting support around the game for teams 7th to 10th the weekend before finals.” said Rothfield.

Why don’t we just have the old style top 10 finals from 1998 instead, or a 10 team finals where teams 1 & 2 have the week off and play the current week 1 for teams 2-10, then week 2 of the finals would see teams 1 & 2 back with 2 teams eliminated, and play week 1 of the finals again. You get 4 extra finals games and it’s over 5 weeks, not 4

The "play in tournament" in the NBA happens because they have an 82 game season and its not uncommon the playoff participants are known weeks in advance. Its merely there to try and keep some interest in the last few weeks of the regular season, specially for TV.

In the NRL its rare to know whom will make the finals until the last round, as either certain positions are not known (e./. who will finish in the top 4) or there are a lot teams vying to finish in the 6-8 positions, with more teams vying for the spots than are available. We don't need this. All it will do is artificially lengthen the season by a week, to fit in two games. That means you either have to start the season 1 week earlier, or pish back its conclusion by a week to compensate. Just not needed and I think a bad idea.

there needs to be a Top 10 in a 20 team comp to keep the late season interesting ..otherwise a lot of teams would be out of the running early ..if you are worried about the finals running an extra week … then reduce the regular season by a week or two…

prefer this below used in 1998 rather then the Top 6 getting a Bye Week 1

Unless we go to two conferences. In which case wildcards would work. You could have top 3 from each conf automatically go through then 4 best record teams from the conferences. or top 2 from each conf then next 4 from each conf into wild card playoffs. That'd give 14/20 teams a year a shot in the playoffs.
