sell the ground to the NRL regardless
Im with you.
I could see it happening.
Be good business. A 99 year free lease. NRL builds the ground up to host other games like NRLW and even some soccer.
The Shire has the second number of Junior rugby league participants in Sydney behind Penrith, and the most junior soccer players in Australia.
You can bet they'd get the Govt to pitch in too.

Arl has made no announcements of buying more assets so it could’ve been more of an interest bearing loan secured against property assets

Cronulla makes the most sense with the delay in opening the leagues club plus they have assets

Dragons don’t have any assets and south’s don’t own the Heffron centre

The Dargons don't own their Leagues Club?
That'd be a pretty good asset.
I was with my partner on Xmas day after all the duties had been done and she wanted to do something else (have a slap). I suggested going down there as I knew it was open.
It was packed, and I mean every machine was being used. They must have close to 1000 there.
On Xmas day.
If it's true, I am generally shocked that they don't own that place.

Edit: St.George Leagues also owns Arncliffe Scots Leagues and the St.George Masonic Club at Mortdale.

St George Leagues Club is a licensed leagues club which controls the operations of the St George rugby league football club

Article says they bought the asset off the football club so doubt it’s the Taj Mahal

If it’s Cronulla they bought that commercial building recently that’s the only one I can think of

My guess is it’s just a loan secured by property rather than an outright purchase

It was owned by Quest, not the Sharks, and it wasn't exactly hush-hush.
Think harder.

Souths are the only ones to have been looking at selling anything off, the Crowe Shares.
The NRL are investing in the WA side, why not add part of a Sydney team to their portfolio.

Any wonder why those stories were actually leaked a few weeks ago.
It's the Mole, he is never one to break a story.

Edit: If it was the Sharks my guess it would be to sell the Ground to the NRL. They did actually ask them a while back if they would go halves with them.
That could be a real possibility.
I don’t doubt that you’re correct here. I think you are on the money.

However sometimes companies lease land from other organisations for a long lease life (ie 50-99 years etc) and they will develop/build/construct on that leased land etc. It’s called a Ground Lease. They will own the building that’s been built (for the duration of the lease life) but they are still required to pay a land leasing rent to the land owner. Most times once that lease life duration concludes, the building ownerships will transfer to the land owner.

Not saying that this is what’s happening here but it wouldn’t be a complete shock if Sharkies did in-fact own the land that Quest built their hotel on, and with NRL buying the building itself, there’s nothing to say they also didn’t buy the land there on after from the Sharkies.

But I doubt that’s what’s happening here. As I started this post with, I think you’re right in your assessment.

Isn't that the case for most LC owned NRL licenses?
Yes, just some Leagues Clubs are more connected to their team than others, and work with them.
Penrith and Cronulla come to mind. The other side you see Wests, Dargons.

The Leagues club did, or the football club?
You created the merky area here.

And it was bought a couple years ago. They were going to set up a Sharks Store but decided it was better business to rent it out.
If you know the real estate pricing in Cronulla Mall you'd understand why.

Should’ve set up a store for the mermaids

That might’ve brought in a decent return
