Petition to have EA Sports make a Rugby League game

I agree that ARL 96 is the best game we've had.
I spent so many hours playing that when I should have been studying it's not funny.

Anyway, I signed your petition, you're up to 24 people *cough*
How can EA ignore numbers like that?

Good on you for having a crack tho :)

Would be more realistic if we made a petition for HES to give Sidhe the rights to make Rugby League games again.

HES have now gone with BigAnt who made RLL. It was trash and I have little faith in RLL2.

Sidhe built a real nice game in Rugby Challenge imo, and they said if they had the rights to make Rugby League games again, they would use the same game engine as Rugby Challenge.

Sidhe's Rugby Challenge isn't perfect, but it's a much better game then their previous RL games imo and shits on BigAnt's RLL from a great height.

Lol I was just checking. I thought I remembered it being one but I didn't want to go on about it and be wrong.

Great game that one. EA + Rugby League is a dream match. :)

Jeez I didn't realise the people on here would be so negative. Why is LU such a negative place?

Was always going to be an ambitious post in this place...

You'll get used to the negativity. People (as evidenced by this post) will bitch and moan about previous games and developers and shoot you down if, god forbid, you actively contribute to a solution

I personally would like to see EA try with another League game. :D

There is no market for it. Current games are met with mild interest, unless sales of that go through the roof you are unlikely to attract developers like EA or 2K to it. There simply is no demand for it, ARL 96 was a game that could have been a little side project written by 2 or 3 developers in literally a few weeks, current generation games need teams of at least 40-50 people, even big ant, the developer of RLL had that many people working on the project.

I'm sure everyone would love to see a good developer create an NRL game, but that won't happen until it's backed up with sales of existing games.

What we need for a RL game is a independent developer, someone who lives & breathes the game...a REAL FAN. Develop it similar to what notch did for minecraft, minimal staff but a real passion for what the game is about. If done properly that developer could then sell them & make 10 times what EA/sidhe would ever earn for one of their production line POS.

Thats the biggest issue with past RL games....they were made by companies only caring about the $$$$$$$, they were never EVER made by a fan, for the fans.

Design it on the PC, sell a shyteload by digital download....if its good enough of a game then the potential is there to port to xbawx & PS3.

I sympathise with the OP wanting a decent RL game but “not caring” whether it would be profitable is ridiculous. The aim of the petition is to convince EA that there is a big enough demand for the game to make it profitable.

I don’t think EA or any other developer would make a game that we are happy with. We would only compare them with games such as fifa, madden etc. where it has taken years of refinement (and available technology) to get where they are today.

100% this. i had a chuckle when i read that "don't care about profit" statement. absolute f**king space cadet.

EA or 2K games don't exist to make OP happy.

Tbh I think the previous developers of RL2 and RL Wii, Sidhe, are best placed to make a decent game. There isn't enough money in it to get to the level that FIFA and Madden are at, but the biggest issues can be overcome by smart design. People working on it that are gamers, programmers and footy brains.

Cant agree with you there. Especially the footy brains part... RL2 was woeful. Sidhe did not learn one thing from the original RL mistakes & errors.
Sidhe had 2 chances to get things right & failed. They failed not having passion for the game & they failed when they started abusing customers who complained about the same old lazy programing. ie...hot potato passing by ai teams yet my players would easily pass to no-one.

Sidhe dropped the ball, had their chance & blew it....I will never buy another product made by those tools.

They have the best existing foundation imo...from what i've seen and heard their Rugby engine is decent and RL Wii was fairly good, way better than RL Live.

I very much doubt anyone in EA knows what RL is.

That said, I'd be sceptical before buying any RL game regardless of developer. I haven't touched the last 2.

actually, i would absolutely argue that each iteration of the Sidhe rugby league series has been an improvement on the last, including RL3 if you played it with a gamecube controller. i don't understand how you could argue against that, improvements were made, just not as drastic as the average consumer would like.

the fact is, they're competing in a market with budgets a fraction of their competition. they can't reasonably satisfy the average joe with the task put in front of them. i can't sit here and say that Sidhes work has been exceptional, but as a developer i understand their constraints and appreciate that they were able to release what they have thus far. a lot of fun can be had with RL2 and RL3.

i also agree with kungl that Sidhe are the best placed to continue with the series.

Sidhe's Rugby Challenge was a huge step above their Rugby League games imo and I enjoyed RL3. They're definitely improving.

BigAnt probably deserve the BOTD because it was their first time making a League game, but I honestly thought RLL was the worst sports game I have ever played.

I have more faith in Sidhe. I like how they're doing things and how they really listen to what their fans want in their games.

RL2 was a decent game, people have far too high expectations, we will never get a finely polished game with amazing animations and indepth gameplay.. I never played following RL games whether they were made by Sidhe or Big Ant.. But I do own Rugby Challange, and whilst its a vast improvement, theres still so many flaws that to the average gamer seem obvious, and I just wonder about the quality of their Quality Control..

Its a fun game over a few beers if you dont take it too seriously, but teams have no structure or backline, props are on the wing, playing halfback, you try to pass to the playmaker, you get a lock who cant kick.. animations are alright if not a little stuttery, but yea its a good platform, but unfortunately Sidhe wont be doin it..

EA are full of sh*t.

I remember e-mailing the EA Sports marketing division years ago asking them if the had any plans to make a game for Rugby League. - (Even prior to the very first Rugby League game comming out on PC) - One of their bright sparks responded to my e-mail, advising me "That EA had no plans to introduce a game for the National Rugby League due to the limited global appeal of the sport"

At the time, they had produced several versions of a game for the AFL...

So.... AFL has more "global appeal" than Rugby League??

Not that I'd agree with them, but I think one could make that argument based on the premise that the new improvements were compromised by new mistakes.

Take Rugby League 3 for instance. Sure, there were improvements made on RL2 but the character models are inferior, the passing and positioning reverted back to the original plus editting a team wasn't as intuitive as it was in the prequel.

There's examples of this through out the series - heck RL2 didn't even have a lower letters option.

The best thing about the Rugby League games was editing and creating teams and comps. I created both of my local comps several times as well as editing the NRL and ESL teams every year. The quality of the games weren't the best but the creative and franchise features along with the fact that it is rugby league probably gave me several hundred hours of enjoyment.

I would pay $500 for a league game that is as good as FIFA. Probably more actually. But it won't happen
