Newspapers are dying because of revenue falling, not readership. They still have power, just not profitability. Rupert can run the News rags at a loss for decades because his tv stations make billions. The tv makes him the money which then enables him to bankroll the rags which demolish governments (and sporting officials) he doesn't like.
That's the difference between Fairfax and News, Fairfax has nothing behind it which is the reason it's at deaths door. News has a worldwide machine supporting it.
The average punter on the street is not as switched on as the average diehard fan. We know exactly what Rothfield and co are. Many of the hundreds of thousands who open the DT each morning or click on the site each day do not.
That's why Rothfield and all the other jokers at the DT have jobs.
