I just saw this snippet in the Sydney Morning Herald. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Thailand vs Philippines game?

Shark Energy Drinks is a Thai-based company.

THAIS IN TOUCH
Cronulla sponsor Shark Energy Drink may extend its association with rugby league … all the way to Asia. Apparently a Thailand team has been in touch about forming a relationship with the company.

Apparently a retired Aussie who used to be involved with junior RL in Sydney initiated this venture. The latest info I have is that he is not having much luck organising a venue. He has employed a local events management group to look for sponsors, which is probably where this story comes from.

But yes - this game should have been played against the USA in the Phills....
Kevin Gordon alone will put 30 points on the Thais let alone what Everingham and Matt Srama will do.
Still they should be congratulated on their efforts

Who are 'Bangkok Lions'? Why has there been no announcement of squads for this match, or where Thailand's players are coming from?

I have just come back from Thailand, and going back over in December. I can tell you the kids in the town where I was were very keen to watch some NRL dvd's I had with me. I even played some park footy with them while there, and let me tell you some of them kids are quick. When I go back over, I am taking some balls and trying to arrange some jumpers and shorts for them as well. Try to set up some better makeshift goalposts and teach them the basics. I reckon I could get a pretty sh*t hot mini league team or mod league team out of these kids.

Read somewhere they could because it wasn't an official sanctioned match, so when badgers asked they said yes.
