Pick a classic NRL match to air on Chooseday Night Football

Bugger, wanted to see the Raiders / Warriors semi again, even though the Roosters / Knights game was good.

For next year they should make this a 'Viewers Choice' option so we actually get to pick which match we watch rather than leaving it in the hands of the general public ... don't know if that is feasible though.

This week's choices at foxsports.com.au
Brisbane Broncos v Melbourne Storm
Finals week two, 2008
With 22 Origin players involved, would the scene of many memorable interstate battles produce a finals classic? Adding to the drama, the Broncos knew a loss would signal the end of the Wayne Bennett era while the defending champions knew Israel Folau was heading to Brisbane for the 2009 season.

Newcastle Knights v Manly
Finals week one, 2006
A controversial round-23 match raised the stakes for this finals encounter between fierce rivals. Could former Knights hero Ben Kennedy end the season for his ex-teammates as he looked to finish his career by leading Manly to a title?

St George Illawarra v Wests Tigers
Finals week three, 2005

Written off after round 15, the Tigers based their revival on attacking play and they recorded two huge wins to reach the final four. Entering the clash as red-hot favourites, could the Dragons continue their eight-game winning streak?

I'd go Dragons/Tigers, haven't seen that match in awhile.

All three are worthy of nominations though.

I really enjoyed last night's game though, the Knights/Roosters prelim from 00. Twas a great game and the Roosters really exploited the Knights on the edges with some superb tries. Luke Phillips' try had to take the cake though...and his tackle!

I remember all the Bulgarelli hatred after that game. Went right on till he left the club.

If only we had that bastard this season. One of the best tackles i've ever seen.

Minichello had surely stolen a backrowers jersey

Seriously, cant we come up with better games then these??

I notice that the AFL shows classic grand finals on Fox going back to the 60's and 70's...

Why not show great historic games like the 73, 76, 77 and 78 grand finals ?

Games that a lot of younger viewers wouldnt have seen...

I'm happy with any of them.

That Manly game has some fond memories, we were at the snow (all of us Newcastle fans, except for 1 Manly fan)... he came into each of our rooms and laughed at us at halftime, and then when the game was over about 20 of us came out of rooms simultaneously and headed for his

Pity about the week after :sarcasm:

they must of taken after brisbanes last final series

halftime broncos 12-0
& THEN
With less than a minute left on the clock, and Melbourne trailing Brisbane by two points, the Storm made the impossible possible with a play through the hands out to the left hand edge that silenced the home crowd and sent the Storm's travelling contingent into a state of delirium.

this week's choices :

Sea Eagles v Eels
Grand final, 1982
Manly entered this game as short-priced favourites after thrashing Parramatta 20-0 in the major semi-final. However, after their breakthrough win in 1981, would the Eels use that experience to spring a huge upset?

Panthers v Raiders
Grand final, 1990
Could Panthers coach Phil Gould land the club's maiden title in his first year with the Mountain Men? Standing in the way was former Penrith teammate Tim Sheens, who was looking for back-to-back titles with the Raiders.

Bulldogs v Roosters
Grand final, 2004
A grand final always brings out plenty of emotions and the contrasting preparations for the rival skippers added to the mix. Could the Bulldogs win it for Steve Price who was ruled out during the week, or would the Roosters give Brad Fittler the dream finish to his great career?

*There was a game last in the 1990 season between Newcastle and Parramatta which I think was a 14 all draw. Sterlo and Mick Hagan both kicked 2 field goals each.

*1989 Grand Final

*Balmain v Canberra in 1993 I think (32all draw - Balmain came from a long way down to draw. Brasher kicked a goal from the sideline on full time to tie the match)

*There was a finals match in the early 90's from memory (may have been 1994) between Norths and Brisbane. Norths won in a close match.

*All of the Bulldogs victories in the 1998 finals (I think...all the close sudden death wins)

*1997 ARL Grand Final
