(1) "Fermat's Room" - a Spanish thriller about three mathematicians and an inventor trapped in a room where the walls are slowly closing in. It was fresh and well-written.

(2) "Ong Bak" - Indonesian martial arts flick starring Tony Jaa, who embarks on a mission to recover his village's stolen Buddha statue. Haa did all his own stunts, and they are insane.

In reply to a couple titles mentioned...

The Fountain - To my surprise, I also really liked it.

Hercules Returns - Aussie classic.

As for my own picks. Yep, really hard to keep it to two. Gonna go with...

La Haine - French flick from mid 90s. Unreal, visceral performances from very raw actors. Gritty plot, but slickly filmed. People who've seen City of God will draw comparisons, but in my opinion, La Haine is a much better film, and I rate City of God.

The King of Comedy - You'd expect that a Scorsese film starring Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis to be very well known, but it doesn't seem to be. Absolutely underrated. I hold this film as my prime example of why De Niro should have done more comedic roles, it's just about my favourite performance of his. It's a real gem.

Chappie had promise but really fell apart.

1. The Man from Earth
2. Cube

Big fan of The Cube. Didn't realize it had a sequel. Will have to check that out.

Hercules Returns
Ender's Game

Hercules Returns was one of my guilty pleasures growing up. Wasn't a huge fan of Ender's Game, but the book is the shit.

Weird Al Jankovitchs movie Vidiot from UHF.

A documentary called Dear Zachary

Vidiot from UHF is fantastic. Such a laugh.

GW Here,

Open Grave- Sensational Thriller/horror.
Drive- Gosling movie thats well directed. Semi famous when first released so unsure this counts.

Drive was pretty awesome. I definitely prefer it to his other obscure violent movie, A Place Beyond the Pines.

District 13- caught this on sbs once. A futuristic French martial art movie
City of god- brazilian attempt at goodfellas

City of God is fantastic. I wouldn't even insult it by saying 'attempt'. It's every bit as good as Goodfellas for different reasons.

City of god is awesome.

Kiss kiss bang bang not one i hear a lot about, but was pretty great

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang would go into my top ten movies of all time. Fantastic film.

City of god- brazilian attempt at goodfellas

Both good movies. District 13 especially good action movie.

As for my 2.

The Perfect Host - Well made thriller. Nice twists to the plot that you won't see coming at all.

Amélie - It's a french movie that if you haven't watched you need to. Very different to any american movie, the director of this always puts out weird movies that you will find interesting (Micmacs another of his I love).

Wake In Fright - early 1970s Aussie movie about a city teacher (Donald Pleasance) and his exposure to the Outback in the most shocking fashion.

Fracture - a 2007 film starring Anthony Hopkins where the legal system is twisted inside out after Hopkins' wife is shot and eventually dies after the trial.

If you like Ong Bak then see The Raid and The Raid 2. They are Indonesian martial arts movies with amazing stunts and fight choreography.

Sicario is a good film that came out recently, not that well known.
