we would have signed him on not too much coin

oh right, that makes a hell of a difference , he's cheap..

untill we sort a hotshot 7+6+9+1 combo, Rich is right, we wont win a premiership.

we're close but I honestly believe Seymour is the weak link..

I like our squad this year, I feel a good vibe. Maybe not a GF win but a good year. I see Inu more than anyone on probation, if he doesn't shake the casual 'tude there's plenty to replace him

Haha yeah I was going to say, "we don't have a squad to win a grad final" , geez what a ridiculous call after one trial.

And I think Seymour cops it unfairly, we would have signed him on not too much coin and he's played pretty well for us and in the trial he played pretty good too, the only trouble was his long kicking game. Defended very well and made a nice line break and he only played about 40-45 minutes I'd say.

Ok. Let's see how ridiculous my call is.
The Warriors are paying $10 on the TAB to win the Grand Final.
You put up $50 and I will put up $500.
If the Warriors win I will pay, through Ozbash, $500 to the Cancer Society.
If they don't, you pay, through Ozbash, $50 to the charity of your choice.
OK?

I don't think anyone can doubt your prediction to be fair. It seems though you are taking what happened in Greymouth as a good way to predicate what is going to happen in 2011, when the only thing you can probably take out of it is that Krisnan Inu's boots are fairly cool. Given that it was a bunch of U20s and Vulcans intermitted with the new boys, I'd hardly make any appraisal whatsoever off the back of it. That said, I don't doubt your prediction, but I'm hoping you formed that opinion with next to no evaluation of Greymouth involved, since, basically for a performance analysis perspective, it was pointless.

Fair point.
I made some comments about players in the trial game but my summation on the squad not being capable of winning the Grand Final was based on last years performance of the players and coach and the new talent.
There is no one who more wants to see the Warriors win a grand Final than I, however I am a realist; and we just don't have the game breakers at the moment.
Cleary's strengths are his unwillingness to experiment (this repays him in consistency) and his dependence on defence - to the exclusion of all else. This has seen the Warriors defence improve out of sight and their away record improve. The downside is the shambles that occurs inside the opponents 20m on attack.
Luck and Mannering are 80 minute workhorses who excell on defence. They shouldn't be in the same team. I think Mannering (because he is the captain) should be 13, and fill the second row with attackers and offloaders.
I also think The Fish should be given a shot at fullback. Inject a bit of flair.

I think while this team, as with every other team in the comp, has the potential and the ability to win a premiership, the coach does not have the potential and the ability to get them even close.

I think Cleary purchasing Inu, and moreso Mateo, proves he is willing to deviate from the ultra conservative defensive style you are talking about.

But I do agree on Luck and Mannering. I think Luck should be our "depth" defensive second rower - not first pick when we will have well-rounded talent like Brown and Ta'ai being wasted on the bench or in the Vulcans this season.

13.Mannering (Luck when injury strikes)
12.Brown
11.Mateo

17.Ta'ai / Lousi

...is what I consider our ideal 2011 second row.

We had an awesome defensive team in 2010, but how much of it relied on our defence-oriented second row, and to a lesser extent our props - Lillyman for example... are they simply making up for lazy defenders elsewhere, who would be shown up in their absence?

>seeing Fish given a shot in FG would be awesome
